Fiji style

We (a family of four) stayed on two separate nights (before and after our Blue Lagoon cruise) at this hotel. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and the hotel offered all amenities. Some services (like Internet) were a bit overpriced.
On the second night the air condition in our room did not work, and it took them about two hours to find another room for us. To make up for this they gave us a free day room (until 20.00 hours) before our return flight to Los Angeles (leaving at 22.30).
Request one of the newer / remodeled rooms.

We also stayed in this hotel as a stopover on the way in and out of Fiji, and for that, it served its purpose. On the way over they put is in one of the older rooms, which was not very nice. The tv didn't work, and the hotel staff took my boyfriend's shirt with the bedding to wash. When we complained, the staff shuffled us around from person to person, but never found the shirt.
Between complaining about the missing shirt and the broken TV, the best they could do was upgrade us to one of the newer rooms on our one night stop on the way back. That room was much more tolerable.
If you can stay somewhere else, I would recommend it.
Great service at short notice

We stayed just 1 night here on our way home after ditching our previous hotel due to a problem with water supply that meant we had no water and a number of kids ( and adults) with stomach upsets. With only 1 hours notice they had our rooms ready, keys sorted and baby's cot in the appropriate room for 14 people, which our previous hotel failed to achieve with over 6 months notice... We stayed in the newly refurbished executive suites (2nd night of use) so all the rooms were in good condition. Sure some of the workmanship and finishing on these rooms is pretty poor and we put our own building experience to use cleaning the sand out of the shower heads to make them run better. Management were open to our observations and confirmed that he would alert the maintenance man to the shower head problem. Restaurant was nice, menu was reasonably priced, however restaurant service was typically Fijian (so can't really knock it back on that aspect when there seems to be no concept of service throughout Fiji). Next time we won't waste time with a budget hotel, we'll be coming back here.
Close to airport ... lovely grounds

We arrived at the Mocambo at midnight, were greeted by a friendly shuttle driver, and a lovely front desk attendant who checked us in with a huge smile and did not get flustered with the size of the group.
The rooms were comfortable, spacious, with a nice view, but basic. The hotel is remodeling and the new rooms are decorated beautifully.
The dining room serves delicious food but don't order a martini, they are not familiar with "exotic" drinks.
The free shuttle to and from the airport is very convenient especially for those traveling with scuba gear. The shuttle driver also distributed a huge quantity of luggage to all our rooms with again, a HUGE smile and "no problem" attitude. Be sure to arrange this in advance.

Stop-off as part of round-the-world trip with family (4). Stayed at the Mocambo Hotel in Nadi for 4 nights. Comfortable accommodation and good food.
With the assistance of my brother-in-law who works as a geologist for a mining company in Fiji, we managed to visit a number of local places off the beaten track. This included a trip to a traditional village with a local guide.
Good day trip sailing and snorkelling.
Interesting local markets with a few bargains for the discriminating tourist!

Can any one advise if they have stayed at the Mocambo Hotel and if they would recommend as a stop over for a day prior to early am flight?

I have never stayed there but have been there a number of times. It is a decent place to stay while on transfers, I dont think you would be disappointed if you stayed at teh macambo
