Airport Stayover

by stevemt about Tokatoka Hotel

Great accomodation right next to the airport with virtually no airport noise.

Excellent accomodation and wonderful facilities. Good pool with Awesome aquaslide, aparently the biggest in Fiji

Waterslide??!

by IcemanNZL about Tokatoka Resort, Nadi

Tokatoka Resort is a good place to relax and get into the mood of Fiji, Tokatoka is good if you have just arrived at Nadi Airport. No long bus trips to your hotel just a quick drive and your there.

Tokatoka is a great place to start and end ones trip to the paradise of Fiji. The pool is very inviting and its the only resort with a waterslide, not that it is very long but will give you hours of fun.
The swim-up bar allows you to stay cool and enjoy a ice-cold Fiji Bitter sitting on the edge of the pool.

Theres a games room with pool and table tennis, that im sure children and adults alike will spend hours.

At night the pool area turns into an entertainment zone, with a live duo playing nightly. If your lucky they may even play some music or songs from your home country.

Im not sure on the prices for this, but im sure they are reasonable. Swimming Pool

not all blue skies, sun and sand

Have recently spent some days in Fiji; not being a sun and sand person only overnighted in Nadi and spent the rest of the time in Suva. Stayed at Nomads Skylodge on the way in - nice staff, very basic accommodation, expensive food, full of VERY young backpackers. Tokatoka on the way back - best waterslide in the country!
Suva is experiencing a big building expansion and a hideous 10 storey building is going up on the old Tappoo's site (for a new Tappoos) This will overshadow the wonderful markets and the historical old buildings nearby. Stayed at Capricorn Apartments, comfortable, very reasonable priced and only 2 minutes from downtown. Economy is still unstable because of the coups and most accommodation is only half full so good rates can be negotiated.
To buy cheap real gold jewellery, Cummings St is the place to look (haggle!!) If you want to experience a bit of colonial Fiji, head for the Fiji Club (someone will sign you in) - fantastic billiards table and great pool. For breakfast you cant go past Palm Court (near ANZ bank). Vegetarians should head for Hare Krishna restaurant (near Police Station)
To hear fantastic singing go to the Fijian catholic church next to Stella Maris school on the seafront. The climate is fantastic at any time except maybe February and March when its very very hot and humid.
Coming from winter in drought ridden south western NSW in Australia, I didnt mind that it drizzled most days - it was 25 degrees and wonderful.

Fiji in August 2004

by UKGrant23

We're currently in New Zealand, half way around our trip around the world. We arrive in Nadi in August and we have 2 weeks which we intend to spend relaxing and chilling out. We're looking for somewhere nice and cheap to stay. Not interested in sharing huge dorms, and would like any helpful suggestions on which islands to go to, and any names of recommended accomodation. I haven't done any research as yet, and so any suggestions would be appreciated as I really don't know where to start. There are so many islands around Fiji!!!

You can choose islands based on what sort of holiday you want. Places like Turtle Island are exclusive and no kids (nice). Mana Island is high class but with kids (nice beaches - see a pic or two on my Fiji page). Plantation Island might be a bit cheaper, but definitely kids. Beachcomber Island is twenty something party island. On the mainland there is heaps of accommodation to choose from... near the airport at Nadi is Tokatoka Hotel. Nice, middle of the road. Beachside Resort is cheaper, but a bit of a way out of Nadi. On the south side of the main island, Viti Levu, there are lots of resorts and a fairly good variety of classes. You will need to do some research in Lonely Planet or at a travel agents here in NZ. Keep your eyes peeled for package deals like 7 nights airfare and accom. August is an excellent time to go - hot and sunny. Happy travels and hope you're enjoying NZ!

Taveuni is considered one of the islands that are beautiful and does not get much tourists because it's out of the way and very far from Nadi

One of the best experience I got, was to stay with a Fijan family. You can hang out with the locals.
Check out their website @ www.fijibure.com
I stayed at Namatakula and it was great.
It's in between Nadi and Suva on the Coral Coast.

Everything about Fiji is relazing.
