Hotel Matira on Bora Bora. It was about a quarter mile down the beach from the Hotel Bora Bora, yet their rates were about 1/3 those at Hotel Bora Bora. We had a cottage 15 feet from the water on a beautiful white sand beach.
In 1988 we paid about $100. per nightin U.S. dollars.

The hotel Bora Bora was perfect. Very, very expensive though.Sean Penn was staying there the week we were there, if that's any indication of the price range.Where ever you stayed, I would highly recommend over the water bungalows. Very nice.
Hotel Bora Bora
by xcheckers about Hotel Bora Bora
from 400-900 a night (range from a garden bungalow which is a great value to the fanciest overwater bungalow) Luxurious resort with Polynesian atmosphere and service. Terrific location with excellent snorkelling right off the beach.
Sofitel Motu, Bora Bora
by localpics about Sofitel Motu, Bora Bora
This is a beautiful, secluded hotel with fantastic overwater bungalows. The service and the food were first rate. You can snorkel from your bungalow. There are beautiful views of Bora Bora from this hotel. The only way to get to this hotel is by boat. A boat taxi takes you straight from the airport to the hotel. The hotel staff greets you at the dock with lei's, fresh juice, and music. They take you straight yo your bungalow and complete the check-in process in your room.
Club Med Bora Bora
by keida84 about Club Med Bora Bora
I have not stayed at the Club Med in Bora Bora, nor will I. Here's why:
Several years ago after many cyclones destroyed the original Club Med, they relocated to their present location and just left the old resort to ROT and DECAY.
No clean up, no recycling of materials. Just abandon and walk away. Out of sight, out of mind.
You can still see the ruins on the road that goes from Farepiti Point.
For this reason alone I will not patronize a Club Med.
Paradise for less
by TahitiDreamer about Pension Le Paradise
There are no words to describe the beauty of LeParadise family-owned pension on Bora Bora. It's located on a tiny private "motu" - Motu Paahi, across the lagoon from Bora Bora.
Le Paradise is owned by a wonderfully hospitable Tahitian family, and here you'll get an authentic Tahitian welcome.
Not for you if you're expecting the typical luxurious tahiti accomodations - There are only 4 or 5 small fares (huts) directly on a lovely white sand beach. The fares are basic, but have hot showers and are neat and clean. And who wants to be inside in a place like this? The views of Bora Bora from the private island is stunning. Amazing sunrises over Bora Bora and the sunsets are breathtaking.
The snorkeling right out front is amazing - words just can't describe this experience.
Plus I really enjoyed staying with a Tahitian family, & interacting with them.
Overwater Bungalows
by Angelamtp1
Unlike any other hotel room you've stayed in before, these traditional thatched-roof bungalows are perched above the turquoise lagoon waters. In many of the rooms, tropical fish swim below as you look through the glass floor or coffee table. With all the amenities of a first-class hotel room, here on your private balcony surrounded only by water and sky, you can enjoy both breakfast (often delivered by canoe) and the sunset (seemingly delivered by the heavens). Hotel Sofitel Marara
by Helga67
We stayed in this 4 stars hotel on our first trip in 1994 and were very satisfied.
The hotel is built in traditional style on a white sandy beach. It is a bungalow hotel, giving the impression of an authentic Tahitian village. The bungalow is comfortably spacious and tastefully furnished, fitted with fans, refrigerator, private bath and separate toilet. It's the only hotel in Bora Bora with a swimming pool in the lagoon.
