Le Maitai in Bora Bora by Helga67 The typical Polynesian style overwater bungalows are quite unique. They have a glass panel or table in the floor, allowing you to have a peek at what the fish are doing in the coral gardens below. These bungalows often have thatched roofs of woven pandanus leaves and woven bamboo walls. They have a porch or veranda with steps leading into the lagoon. Theme: HotelComparison: most expensive

Fare on Huahine by Helga67 Accomodations in French Polynesia are expensive. If you are on a tight budget, you can try the website mentioned below. Hotel Hibiscus, Moorea by easyoar The room and the location were very good. The restaurant by the water is famous as a good place to watch sunsets and this was justifiable. If you spoke to the mother who was overall in charge, she was great and very helpful. Her daughter Natalie seemed to be in it for the money, and went to every effort to sell expensive tours. She lost interest in us somewhat when we declined. The thing that really upset us was when we needed to checkout quickly to catch the ferry back to Tahiti, and there was no-one on reception (we did get there a couple of minutes early). We found the receptionist with her feet up in the restaurant. We asked if we could checkout, and she simply said that she hadn't started working yet. eventually she got up and dragged her feet very very slowly over to reception and then took about 10 minutes to print an invoice. I ended up driving the long way around the island as I knew there would be no traffic and I might be able to go 1 or 2 kms faster than I should... The only reason we caught the ferry was because the kind Avis lady was waiting right by the ferry for me. She threw me the deposit back, I threw her the keys, and we leapt on the ferry as it sailed away. My advice would be checkout the night before...
Nice rooms, but some of the staff leave a lot to be desired. I don't expect to be paying around $180 USD for a room per night and get treated like that! Note:- This is one of the BETTER value hotels on Moorea!!!! It is one hell of an expensive place. Le Mandarin - Papeete, Tahiti by easyoar This hotel was getting on for £100 (almost $200 USD) for a night for the room, which you would think would get you something pretty nice! You'd be wrong in this case. The hotel looks nice from the outside, and their website does a pretty good job too. However the rooms are very dirty and badly need decorating, and the bathroom looks seriously ancient too. I was flabbergasted when I saw what we got for our money. We did get to see 2 rooms, as we asked to be moved from our first room, and both were the same. The one thing this hotel has going for it is the location. it is very close to the ferry for going to Moorea - you can walk there in a few minutes. The other thing to bear in mind is that Papeete hotels have a reputation for being very bad and very expensive, so this may be a standard hotel!
Dirty rooms!

Sheraton Tahiti by ATXtraveler On our first day of travel, we ended up arriving at the airport at 11pm, which did not leave alot of room for sight-seeing. The taxi ride was not too far from the airport, but we paid through the nose because we did not know how much to pay (you should only pay 1000 xpf) or so. The hotel had a very nice reception area, but I have to be honest, we did not see much else of it, because we had an early morning tour to head out on, and checked out at 8am! We did try to have lunch, but I was not going to pay 30 bucks for it!

by Angelamtp1 Sailing on seven night voyages from Papeete, the M/S Paul Gauguin visits five idyllic islands which the artist celebrated over and over again in his paintings. This remarkable vessel is an extension of the informal, relaxing environment of Polynesia, where the constraints of formal wear, tuxedos and ties are forgotten and the only dress code is relaxation. The Paul Gauguin was designed specifically for sailing French Polynesia year-round. by Angelamtp1 Unlike any other hotel room you've stayed in before, these traditional thatched-roof bungalows are perched above the turquoise lagoon waters. In many of the rooms, tropical fish swim below as you look through the glass floor or coffee table. With all the amenities of a first-class hotel room, here on your private balcony surrounded only by water and sky, you can enjoy both breakfast (often delivered by canoe) and the sunset (seemingly delivered by the heavens). by localpics This hotel opened in October 2000. It's in a spectacular location, nestled between Cooks Bay and Opunohu Bay. There is a small private beach, a nice pool, a good spa, several restaurants, shops, a fitness room, and a good activity center. We stayed in one of the overwater bungalows. Check out my Moorea travelogue for more pictures.

The view from our over water bungalow by localpics This is a beautiful, secluded hotel with fantastic overwater bungalows. The service and the food were first rate. You can snorkel from your bungalow. There are beautiful views of Bora Bora from this hotel.
The only way to get to this hotel is by boat. A boat taxi takes you straight from the airport to the hotel. The hotel staff greets you at the dock with lei's, fresh juice, and music. They take you straight yo your bungalow and complete the check-in process in your room.
