KIa Ora Sauvage: KIa Ora Sauvage
  • Tip Rating:
  • It was about $350 us including 3 meals per day per couple when we went 2 years ago. Given currency fluctuations it should be less today. You do have to pay about $100 per person for boat transfers and you usually have to stay 1 or 2 days at the main resort due to transfer times.

THERE IS A 2 DAY MINIMUM STAY and this is not for everyone. You should especially be in good health if you are going to a place like this as getting medical attention can be very difficult and take a long time.

Ultimate Romantic Retreat that takes you back in time. Incredible views, accomodations and Polynesian hospitality. A local family takes care of you. They alternate monthly. Fresh fish is obtained by going spearfishing for example. The food is simple but excellent. The following modern conveniences are NOT available: electricity, hot water, telephones, tv..etc.

Kerosene lamps are used for light in the evenings. The bungalows are made of native materials. Incredible wood furniture and giant clamshell sinks are two features of the relatively large comfortable bungalows which in my opinion are nicer than the ones at the main Kia Ora resort.

    French Polynesia is VERY VERY...
  • Tip Rating:
  • French Polynesia is VERY VERY VERY expensive...and I don't see why since I went to neighbouring islands such as Fiji and Vanuatu which are even better, buch much more affordable.
Most of the people in French Polynesia is overrating and you get limited comfort for a normal rate. Only top expensive hotels (made for honeymooners) are ok but you should make an hold-up to a bank prior to going to this part of the world !

In Papeetee, I found out a youth hostel which I can't remember the name. It was dirty, noisy, and quite unsafe...but still expensive.
In Bora Bora I had to sleep in a huge 20 people dormitory which was the only 'affordable' place (full of spiders and ants...but this does not annoy me so much). DON'T GO to Bora Bora if you are on a tight budget.
In Moorea, the huge camping including some bungalors was much better and ok with rates. Clean and safe...and next to a beautiful lagoon.

    My family runs a bungalow...
  • Tip Rating:
  • My family runs a bungalow business. I believe they are located in the main village by the seafront.

The best place to camp at is situated near the fishermen village across the lagoon, opposite the main village

  • Theme: Campground
  • Directions: Accommodation is never a problem if you have a sense of adventure. Get a sleeping bag and a mosquitoe screen and just sleep on the beach.

I stayed at the Hyatt Hotel...
  • Tip Rating:
  • I stayed at the Hyatt Hotel when I was in Tahiti. The hotel was rather basic comparing to the other Hyatt Hotels in other parts of the world. A room cost about US$145 per night (in 1997). Tahiti is definitely not a cheap place to take a holiday. With a minimum wage of US$900, the living standard here is pretty high.

The rooms all have a spectacular view of the Pacific ocean!

Sleep on the floor at Papeete...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Sleep on the floor at Papeete International airport - Bring your sleeping bag or mattress with you and It is free and safe! I slept there at the airport- no problem! Avoid accommodation requests at the Information Center in Papeete International airport and other Polynesian strangers who are seeking for your accommodation help. Avoid them at all cost! They will rip you off by charging hidden fee when you stay their home. It is not worth your hassle. Sleep at the airport is the best solution while you stay in Tahiti. Camping on other islands - hide behind the church, tropical bushes, on the beach with a lot of trees and so forth. I had done many times anywhere in the world and there is nothing to be fear. Do not let mass media scare you about street crime report and do not fear from the police harrassment by staying in strange places. Secure all your things inside of your tent all the time. When you go out for buying food, take your tent with you and never trust any place where no one is there! If people offer you for the staying their home without paying their fee except paying tip for your help, then trust your own judgement for your safety. Good Luck! .
    FREE!

Sleep anywhere in hidden safe places and it is FREE! You can breathe exotic fresh tropical aroma and you will appreciate your tropical memory. Save your money and that prolong your continuing journey and spend longer time for travel
