Kia-Ora Rangiroa - Sauvage Island: The Best Robinson Crusoe Experience Ever

by Rabbie_Hill

The Kia-Ora Sauvage is a fantastic getaway and is suitable for couples and families with older children. Although the main hotel is suitable for young children as well. I would thoughraly recommend this hotel to anyone who likes to do something a little differently and loves simplicity. Definately simplicity, as the huts have no electricity, internet or air-conditioning.

I went to the KOS last summer with my family and we loved every moment of it, you can spend a whole day just lying on the beach, or take out the kayaks to explore the amazing rock formations on the ocean side. Alternatively you can go on an excursion to other uninhabited islands where you can snorkel, swim or have a barbeque.
For me the best thing was wading out to a sandbar and 5 o'clock with a beer and a good book, and just read while watching the small sharks being fed the leftovers from lunch, and be chased by the hotels resident dog!

Foodwise I thought the KOS was great. As a vegatarian, I often find that hotels don't have much of an alternative and the veggie option is usually a salad with a large space where the meat should have been. Well, the Kia-Ora Sauvage had excellent cuisine, and whenever it was fish or meat they always prepared something equally delicious for me. Often it was better than the meat option!

The Sauvage island is located about 30km in all directions from any other people, and is truly a chance to be by yourself. The Island has some really nice little quirks, such as the call for lunch is a sea conch blown by Bernard, who is the chef, captain and manager of the island. The only place you can make a phone call on the island is an X on the beach ( X marks the spot!).

Hotel Maitai: Friedly 3-star Hotel in Bora Bora

by axelebert

3 star hotels are rare in French Polynesia, so if you look for leveling between comfort and room rates you might want to consider this hotel. The staff was very helpful and friendly, so I had a really good time. A little minus - the beach is rather small and the only shadow comes from the palm trees. Snorkel equipment and canoes are free for rent. There are offers for staying 6 nights - paying 4, with breakfast included.

Less expensive than top hotels, acceptable comfort level, friendly and helpful staff

Club Med Bora Bora: Only All Inclusive

by peaceofkeri

This is the only all inclusive resort on the island which totally necessary considering the cost of food and drinks.

Intercontinental Beachcomber Tahiti: Intercontinental Tahiti

by rcpage

Well we had one night booked here. First they let us down and did not have the two beach bungalows we had ordered but only one. Then they gave us a standard hotel room in the hotel block which had a view of Tahiti's main airport runway. Interesting but not what I expected. Good thing is that the air traffic in and out of Tahiti is pretty light although a fair bit is in the early hours.

The hotel is massive spread over acres. It is a village in its own right. Rooms were clean but I take that for granted when I stay at an Interconti. But no real apologies or offer of a free meal or drink or something for messing up the accommodation. Pretty poor.

My advice would be skip this hotel and go local even if the standard is very basic and save the cash to spend on better things. But if you like a holiday resort then this is for you.

So many pools! Including an infinity pool. They also run special event nights with native dancing. Views are lovely.

Intercontinental Beachcomber Moorea: Moorea Island's Best Hotel

by rcpage

This hotel is probably one of the best in the world. It is even better than the George V in Paris. The rooms are as you would expect from an Interconti and include a minibar which is great as you can store your own stuff bought at the local supermarket.

The hotel has anumber of restaurants but the pool restaurant is fine. In fact we preferred it to the a la carte Restaurant purely because it was poolside.

Only thing that lets this hotel down is the arrogant French Front Desk staff. If Interconti management replaced them with local friendly Polynesians then this hotel would have everything.

We also went and scouted out the other hotels on the island (Sofitel) but none matched the Interconti. Sofitel was nice and one would not be disappointed but Interconti is the best on Moorea - apart from those French front of desk staff.

Accommodaytion was lovely. Grounds immaculate. Pool was warm and spotlessly clean. Views were to die for. The hotel also has a swim with the dolphins pool!

This is a honeymooners dream location and if you are a family then you get the pool to yourselves most of the day until the honeymooners surface from their bungalows on stilts.

The hotel has a scuba diving centre attached. This you must do. And you can dive with the sharks! Awesome! The water is over 100m visibility and the coral is excellent.

We loved the location and hotel (apart from the snotty French front desk staff) but despite that would love to come again.

Hiti Moana: Beach side villa, Tahiti

by rcpage

We stayed our first night at a beach villa found on the web. Hiti Moana villas are just paradise with a lovely pool and views to die for. The rate was 5x less than the Intercontinental Hotel which we stayed in at the end of our Tahiti trip.

Hiti Moana has a large villa for families with kitchen and this one is next to the pool. Then it has a number of chalets between 10 to 50 yards from the pool.

Hiti Moana also have a canoe for free use and a speedboat that can be rented.

We only stayed one night and day as we had been given advice that the island of Moorea was even more beautiful than Tahiti itself. How could that be?

The views are to die for. The water is crystal clear. The grounds are maintained perfectly. There is even a small ornamental fish pond. We would love to have stayed here for a week.

The rooms are clean with basic furnishings. This is not luxury accommodation but the price is excellent value for money.
