We stayed here twice on the same trip, in a fare, overwater bungalow, the first time, then we went back to Tahiti for a few days and when we came back to Moorea we stayed in the hotel block. Both are excellent, but of course the fare is perfect. They're big, comfortable, private, have a big balcony with steps going direct to the water below. Absolute perfection is one on the western side so that you can sit on your balcony and watch the incredible sunsets. Each evening the sunset is a different colour, from red to orange to purple to pink...it's simply breathtaking. The restaurants were excellent, there was a small grocery shop near the hotel so we bought picnic things there (and mixers for the duty-free drinks because they're always very expensive from hotel mini bars).
the location is perfect, right on its own private beach. The non-motorised water sports were free, so each day we took a canoe and paddled around the lagoon, exploring the motus, small uninhabited islands. Dolphin Center at Resort by dustyelisa We stayed at the Intercontinental Moorea for 2 nights of a 6 night tour of French Polynesia. They have over the water bungalows - but we stayed in a standard room with a view of the lagoon and dolphin area. The resort was old, and hasn't been updated. It offered the basic features, but not in line with the "luxury" image. The bed was old and poor quality as were the pillows. At least the bed was firm! The coffee/tea items were not restocked regularly and the housekeeper even left a dirty glass. The water pressure was good, but the shower curtain was cheap and too small so water went all over the floor. And, the shower head leaked shooting a small stream out the side (and on the floor). The electical outlets were on the floor behind the desk, so really hard to get to. The tea kettle had a cord of 2 feet so we had to heat the water on the floor. The resort grounds had native foliage, but it was sparse with many dead spots. They have the benefit of a beautiful location with a private lagoon. The dolphin experience and turtle rehabilitation center is located right on the resort. We had one meal at the resort - it was tasty, but overpriced as were the drinks. The resort had all the basics with some lovely features. If travelling here again, I would see if other accomodations were more luxurious.
This resort has a Dolphin Center on site in which they use the proceeds from tourists to fund education for the local schools. You can pay for a variety of experiences (introduction, trainer, etc). I choose the 1 hour introduction. It's approximately $200 US, and well worth it! It's about 40 minutes in the water with 3 separate dolphins. There is quite a bit of education - and plenty of petting the dolphins. The best part for me was when the dolphins floats in his back and you can feel his heart beating. They take lots of pictures of you with the dolphins for purchase. My friend and I bought one set and shared the cost, (6600 XPF) so it was reasonable. The resort also has a turtle sanctuary where they rehabilitate sick or injured turtles.
