Papeete lunch
by tathraman
A rich friend wants to take us for a slap-up lunch in Papeete - wonderful food, ocean or beachside views - the full works. All suggestions will be most gratefully received!
Thanks
David

The first two that come to my mind are the Le Belvedere, which sits on a top of a hill above Papeete, with fantastic panoramic views of all that is Tahiti. I have been there three times and it is worth it. I was a five star tour director, and handeled small but exclusve groups. They were never disappointed at the Bel.
This is what the Tahiti Beach Press says about it.
"The chalet-style Le Belvedere Restaurant is unique in Tahiti and Her Islands. Where else in Tahiti can people gather gratefully around a blazing fireplace in the cool July evenings, or take a pleasant dip in a swimming pool after exploring a tropical hiking trail that passes through tree ferns, mango trees and stands of wild raspberries? You will feel on top of the world in this rustic and cheerful setting, 600 meters (1,800 feet) above the sea, overlooking Point Venus and Moorea. Marlon Brando¹s atoll of Tetiaroa stands out clearly, white reefs in the surrounding ocean. Tetiaroa is some 42 kilometers (26 miles) to the north. The little island of Maiao is visible to the left of Moorea. On a clear evening at sunset, during the months of May and June, the viewer can sometimes distinguish the mountains of Huahine, an island 150 kilometers (93.2 miles) from Tahiti. A telescope on the terrace is provided for those who would like to take a closer look at their far surroundings."

Hope this gives you a bit of help. If not, we can find some others for you. Let me know....d:o)

You might also try Le Coco's Restaurant, with very French-gourmet cuisine. It's located on the west side beach, with great waterfront views of Moorea.
Travel Tips for Papeete
Full of life
by Helga67
Papeete is a busy and bustling town on the north coast of Tahiti. The town is spread along the waterfront, facing the island of Moorea across the Sea of Moons. It's an excellent place to end your vacation in French Polynesia.
Papeete has lots of shops, restaurants and a good nightlife. After spending some time on the remote islands, just relaxing and enjoying nature, Papeete is a great place to come back to the real world.
Cathedrale de l'Immaculee Conception
by Helga67
The cathedral in Papeete is usually called the Cathedral of Notre Dame and was built in 1875. When the door is unlocked, go inside, where it is quiet and cool, and look at the paintings of the Crucifixion.
Our Gateway to the "Other Side of Paradise"

We still have hundreds of photos filed from our unforgettable tour through French Polynesia. I suddenly realized I had begun to build several pages of the islands we visited.......but I failed to include PAPEETE! Party Central of French Polynesia!
We stayed for only 1 night on this hustle and bustle island. After staying on the more remote French Polynesian islands for a few weeks, it was a bit of a "culture shock" for us to be back in the modern rhythm of this Papeete. It was an overnight stay in "civilization" before we jetted back to the U.S. and completed our momentous Round the World journey.
Even more wonderful memories were made in Papeete.
"Exceptional Island. Exceptional Frenchman"
We have to credit the lovely Jadedmuse for introducing us to this gentleman, Henri....A French transplant who "followed the path of Gauguin" and left France for the Polynesian Paradise.
Charming Henri welcomed us upon our arrival into French Polynesia......and SAVED US from our RTW luggage. He helped us store a bulk of our bags so we can "keep it light" through our tour of the rest of the Islands.
Henri runs an "Adventure Tours" business in Papeete, and we were lucky enough to be guided by him on one of his fun excursions (more in the TIPS section!)
