What's in a name?
by Helga67
Papeete (pah-pey-eh-tey) got its name from the little river that is found in Bougainville park.
Papeete means "water basket". Before the houses were equipped with water pipes, the people used to come to this river, with their gourds wrapped in woven leaves and took the pape (water) home in their ete (basket).
Two Days Around a Trip to Moorea

"Big City Papeete"
We were only in the city of Papeete to fly in and out of French Polynesia, but while there we did try to experience as much as we possibly could. We had dinner at Le Belvedere, lunch at Les 3 Brasseurs, and did a half day tour around the island (including taking in a canoe race as part of French Polynesia's big festival).
Papeete appeared to be very nice and had quite a few high end resorts, but it honestly didn't hold a candle to Moorea in terms of natural beauty. That being said, there is plenty to keep you busy for even up to a few days.
Moorea

"the most beautiful isle"
The most beautiful island I've ever been to. I think the color blue was invented here. It's lush, peaceful and really romantic. I can see why people would pick the islands of French Polynesia for their honeymoon!
"Beaches"
The Ora Sofitel has a good beach and it's open to the public. It also connects with the public beach, Tamae, which is just as lovely and has good snorkeling.
"Beautiful Lagoon"
Moorea's lagoon is fantastic!!!!!
