My husband and I stayed at Hotel La Pirogue in June 2005 for 3 nights and absolutely loved it. Owned by a French/Italian family, the hotel is made up of 8 bungalows (4 beach and 4 garden) on a small motu -- Motu Poru -- in the lagoon of Tahaa. There is also a restaurant and reception/bar. We stayed in a beach bungalow (#3) and had the most relaxing and romantic experience. The bungalows was beautiful, rustic and comfortable. Each day it was decorated with flowers, on the bed, in the bathroom, even the tables. The owners were extremely hospitable, friendly and accommodating. La Pirogue offers its guests kayaks and an outrigger canoe (Pirogue is French for canoe) and there was snorkeling equipment too, but we brought our own. They also have bicycles for use on the main island, which they are happy to bring you to by boat. The food at their restaurant was incredible. All in all, we loved it!
On a motu with almost nothing else on the islet except for someone's home. Extremely private, wonderful views of Tahaa and Bora Bora. Lovely sunsets, great food, friendly owners.
