Pacific Island Club Guam
Do not go to Guam if you plan to stay longer than a week. The place sucks.. You have been warned!!!!
What a relief it is to find a website with people actually willing to speak the truth about this horrid place. (Guam) I have only been here for 5 months but have lived many of the nightmares told by others visiting this place. I had grand dreams of coming to an island paradise after seeing photos of the beautiful beaches and lovely places to visit here. It's sad to say, but I was wrong about this place. The small bit of glitter shown in photos of a few beaches and tourist areas (less than 1% of the island) was heavily darkened by the reality of the rest of this place. The reality is, this is a dump. It's a ghetto welfare state; just go to craislist and look at apartments for rent. Most will accept transfer of the welfare housing vouchers. The rent is high; considering the property is relatively a dump. Burglary and theft is high on the island. Kidnapping is not so common, but it happens. Girls or women will turn up missing, only to be found in the jungle a few weeks later, after being raped, tortured and starved.
Being an idiot must be a requirement to work at a restaurant here, as the service is horrendous. Anyone could make a fortune here teaching the basics of waitering to any of the local restaurants, but they would never be hired to teach because the restaurants are not interested.
Getting your driver's license starts with standing in line for at least an hour to be seen. The DMV representative will want to see your I'D. and a social security card, if you are from the U.S.
Most people I know, don't carry their SSN, so it will take another visit. After that, if you get scheduled for your written exam, it will likely be at a date at least 2 weeks away, and NOT at the DMV. You'll have to go to the University of Guam for that. And forget about receiving your results right away as you won't find out, or be able to get your license if you pass until a week later. No one has operated like this for years in the states; probably because it would cost money to upgrade and it will take away from the wealthy families to get a modernized system in place. If it's not broke, but goes slow as ***, why fix it. As of the moment of my writing this, it's 5 past noon. The results are supposed to be posted by now online. They aren't. This place takes pride is it's laziness. Oh well, at least they excel at incompetence.
People will read these personal accounts and think "Oh, It can't possibly be that bad" People, BELIEVE me, it's THAT bad, or worse. If you come here and get fcked over live everyone else wanting to come here, do not say you weren't warned. This is a welfare state. Chomorros gobble up all jobs and woe to the white, or black, or Asian person that needs a job here. You almost cannot get hired here unless you are Chammoro. You will get pushed out quicker than you can say "hey". I came here looking for a job and after being laid off a job overseas; thinking I could at least get unemployment until I found steady work. Bad idea. Guam does not have a reciprocal agreement with the U.S. - meaning Guamanians cant go to the U.S. and get unemployment so the U.S. will not pay it for people on Guam. This is most likely because Guam pays NO unemployment compensation into the U.S. coffers. The country is too busy begging for a handout from the US...they have no money. I'm sure the Guam government is pocketing all the money from the mainland it can get. Lord knows, they are not putting any of it into the schools, which are literally in danger of falling down. The roads suck and were tarred with about 1/2 inch of it, on top of already bad roads. They did at least spray paint a circle around the area where the road needed repairs, so there is that. I thought it was to tell the repairmen where to repair, but that was several months ago, so that could not possibly be it. The road crews probably worked for 2 days solid spray painting the circles in the road. Such an improvement!
The only good things Guam has to offer are the monuments built to honor the US military for rescuing this floating piece of dung from the Japanese.
