The Train
We hope to try Le Petit train in September; What is the cost? can we hop-on and hop off at different locations? Thank you.
Its a lot time since we were on that train, so can't remember price. I don't think we could get off except at the zoo, which was not all that good anyway. Train did a lap of Noumea with everyone tooting and waving. Seems the driver is/was every girls pin up boy - LOL
Local mpney are called Francs because New Caledonia is a french colony. With 1 euro you can buy 119.33 FPG.

A great way to discover Nouméa, these open-sided motorised “trains” depart regularly on a circle route that includes all of Nouméa’s major attractions, incl. the main shopping area, botanic gardens, beaches and Tijabou Cultural Centre.
The main tourist area in Noumea is Anse Vata, where a lot of the hotels, restaurants, and souvenir shops are located.
It also has a good beach, where people swim, snorkel, windsurf and so on. Even if you don't stay here, it's a short bus ride from town.
Noumea is a garden town and has may green or paved areas with restaurants and childrens play areas. "Le Place Des Cocotiers" is a park in the centre of town that is divided into four main areas. "Place Feillet" has a rather nice music rotunda that was constructed in 1879 and "La Place Courbet" has a cylindrical fountain where all places around Noumea are measured from! Markets and events are held every Thursday at "La place De La Marne" but the centre piece of the park is "Le Square Orly" where a statue of Governor Orly looks over a swan filled lake and restaurant area.
Having a view over city center from one of the hill is a nice descovering of the builings layout in the city. The city center is nice to see it from the dstance, but going through you will find out a lot of drunk people not so nice. During the day in the center is perfect to visit but don't go here during the night.

A: "The L'Escapade is a place of contrasts indeed. Some things are perfect, some things not so perfect. However if you are just going to spend the day, you should be fine...."
