Le Petit Train Noumea

by plaistowep

Regarding Le Petit Train in Noumea. What is the frequency of the service on a sunday (cruise ship arrival). Also does the service permit one to get off and then catch the next one that comes along to allow for exploring different areas

Regards Peter

Re: Le Petit Train Noumea

It has been a while since I used Le Petit train but I have updated my knowledge and here is what I know know.

The train departs from Palm Beach Station, Anse Vata at 9.15am, 10.45am 1.30pm, 3.15pm. It does take in the major sights and it allows stops at the Botanical Gardens, City Center, and at Anse Vata as well. I am 90% sure that they will let you get off the train and reboard the next train as long as you have a valid ticket, but only at these predetermined stops.

You can get off at the City Center shopping district and it is only about a 10 minute walk back to the terminal.

Hope this helps.......d:o)
Enjoy Noumea, - New Caledonia is a fascinating destination, not seen by as many as it deserves.

Travel Tips for Nouméa

Expensive

by Maximilian21

If you are expecting a nice cheap place in Noumea you most definetly wont find it. Accomadation can be expensive and food is not cheap as well. What you do get however is a laid back lifestyle and some super friendly people

Helicopter Tour.

by K.Knight

You can experience the amazing power of helicopters as you are whisked away into the sky for the most incredible views of New Caledonia you will see. You can see all of Noumea in only a few minutes, as you will pass over all the major points of interest. A wonderful ride covering Baie de la Moselle, Ile Nou, Pointe Chaleix (the Navy Base), Baie de l’Orphelinat, Baie des Citrons, Anse Vata Beach, Club Med, Ilot Canard, Ilot Maitre (Escapade Resort) and ships at the quay.

COST AUS$180.00 for 30 minutes.

Noumea Aquarium

by Maximilian21

Situated in Anse Vata. It contains rare and unusual marine life, from sponges and coral through to the big fish with sharp teeth. It probabaly is not the biggest aquarium in the world but it is very colourfull non the less and gives a wonderful indication as to what the wildlife in the south pacific has to offer, the marinelife anyway.

Government House

by hunwagner

The residence of the French High Commissioner is a beautiful, colonial-style villa nearby, which is of course not open for the public.
You can still get a decent view of the exterior across the fence from the western side.

It ain't what it used to be:(

"One day stop only."

I was last in Noumea, in 2001 and I must say, the city has changed a great deal since then and unfortunately, not for the better. The city centre is now dark and dirty and not too safe, it would appear. The once lovely park, is now unkempt and gangs of local youths (and older) congregate in these areas, making none too charming remarks, as you pass. Half the shops were closed due to the 'climate' apparently, but the shopping was nowhere near as good as it used to be, anyway. I actually compared the city to one of the worst areas of Melbourne, but then even worse than that! I don't know what's going on with the city of Noumea, but I'm glad I was only there for one day and not a week. Sad, but true, this place isn't what it used to be.
