More about The Green House on the Hill
A real home from home
by TripAdvisor Member Christina2812
We stayed 2 nights at the Green House on the Hill and it was one of the best B&Bs we used during our 3 week trip. Ruth was an excellent host, friendly and knowledgable of the area, and even accompanied us on a wine tasting tour. Our room was very comfortable, with everything you could need...hairdryer, iron and ironing board, booklets on the town etc. We were even able to do our washing! Breakfast was really good....smoothies with the usual B&B fare....very nice!
The location was also great...okay, so it was up a little hill, but not a problem for us.
We'd recommend this B&B to anyone staying a few days in Napier, who are looking for somewhere a little quirky, with a friendly host!
Wonderful vegetarian B&B

The Green House on the Hill is exactly what is says - it is on a very steep hill but with fantastic views over Napier and the Pacific Ocean.
We had a double room which had it's own main door access so we could come and go without disturbing anyone. It also meant that we could park our car right outside which was very handy.
The room was very nice with a lovely fresh feel. We had a firm double bed and also a couple of chairs to relax in. The en suite was clean and the shower was good.
The owner Ruth was very welcoming and friendly. We were offered internet access and clothes washing facilities. We had arranged to have dinner that night with Ruth and it was wonderful to have home cooked food (the food was excellent - vegetarian). We sat outside for dinner and relax in good company and wonderful views.
I would definitely go back there and would highly recommend it.
Charmimg B&B

The Green House on the Hill is a super little base for a visit to the Napier/ Hawkes Bay area.
As previously mentioned by fellow visiors, Ruth really is a very friendly and welcoming host, as was her husband, Gerry.
Breakfast was thoughtfully prepared with homemade lemon curd (of which I ate a lot, thanks Ruth!), jams and other preserves, fresh bread and seasonal juicy fruit. Ruth was on hand each morning to give as much guidance as possible on where to visit.
We would certainly recommend this place to those visiting the area- It really is good value for money.
Free entertainment from the Possums

We stayed with Ruth and Gerry at their B & B for 2 nights during our travels around NZ. They were both very welcoming and Ruth provided some great breakfasts and conversation each morning. It was also lovely to meet our fellow guests Candi and John.
Our two children aged 8 and 6 stayed in a twin room opposite our own. After our trip into town on the first evening we walked back to the Green House to be greeted by a very strange noise coming from the tree at the bottom of their "hill". It freaked the children out somewhat and they asked Ruth the next morning what it was. She told us it was a possum - we've never seen or heard a possum...they aren't very common in the UK. Hence our then compulsory visit the next day to Opossum World on Marine Parade. Somewhat strange but essential viewing to learn more about this strange creature.....!!
More importantly our accommodation was great. We had 2 rooms with a shared bathroom, extra toilet and our own front door. Gerry kindly let me use their tumble dry at a time of great need. And we had everything we could require for a 2 night stay, including access to the internet. Thankyou very much to both of you.
Truly delightful experience

The Green House on the Hill has been a delightful experience for us. Ruth is a great host, warm and informative. The rooms are decorated with fantastic taste and equipped with all one needs. The location so close to the centre is another added bonus. Sadly we had not enough time and could only stay one night.
Relaxed and welcoming

We stayed with our 2 children for 2 nights in the ensuite room.
Ruth and Gerry are a lovely friendly couple with interesting stories to tell of their adventures in NZ. They made us (and especially our 5 year old) feel very welcome and breakfasts were wonderful home-cooked affairs.
The room was large, even with a pull out bed and a cot, the shower was powerful and having our own front door meant we could come and go as we pleased. The free wi-fi internet access and use of laundry facilities was an unexpected and added bonus.
I cant recommend a stay here highly enough.
Great location, great hosts, great breakfast
by TripAdvisor Member BristolRovers
The Green House on the Hill is located about 5 minutes walk from the centre of Napier (although it takes 10 minutes on the way back because of the hill) and it makes a great place to stay when exploring the town or the surrounding wine region. The hosts were friendly and welcoming, and provided the best breakfast on the North Island, including fresh baked croissant, beautiful local fruit and energising conversation. The room was very comfortable and had the convenience of it's own front door which meant we didn't disturb anyone in the evenings.
This B&B felt almost like coming home for a few days in the middle of our time away - a definite must-stay.
Great!

Great location, great room, great breakfasts and great people. We really enjoyed our stay (plus Napier is beautiful!). If we came back to New Zealand, we would stay with Ruth again.

We stayed three nights in April and were made very welcome by Ruth and Gerry. We had a lovely comfortable room and the breakfasts were great. It was also very convenient to shops and places to eat. Ruth was good at advising us on what to see and do. The wine tour she arranged for us was, hic, most enjoyable.
we would go back again.
