 | | | | Auckland City YHA: City YHA | Satisfaction: | | | | |
My first few days in Auckland I stayed at the Auckland City YHA just a block from Queens Street and 10 blocks from Sky City. The hostel was nice and the staff friendly, but prices were a bit high. However, in respect to other hostels in the area the prices were nice for what you receive in return. Tommy's Bistro is down on the lobby floor for breakfast. The hostel offers multishare, family, and twin rooms. The rooms themselves are very clean, but with little personality. During my stay it was difficult to find many people to converse with because they were out of the hostel doing other things, understandable. Overall I can't complain about my stay. The staff helped when they could and found help when they couldn't. Typical of the great YHA service.
3rd floor sky deck. Laundry, television lounge, elevators, 150 beds, Tommy's Bistro, Travel help, internet (expensive), and mini store. Limited view of the city but can see Sky City. Near K'rd and Queen Street. Short walk to main part of city. Quiet and remote. Leave a Comment Theme: HostelPrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: about average

As part of my "Welcome to New Zealand" package with the working holiday, it included a 2 night stay at this YHA, which ended up being extended for another week or so... The hostel itself is not particularly noteworthy but is large enough and has enough facilities for its size. Laundry room, travel desk, lounge & dining area, kitchen, tv room, smoking deck, linen included, female-only dorms and a small breakfast & lunch cafe. The other travellers I met at the hostel made the stay memorable, in a good way! At least this hostel has windows in the rooms, unlike some hostels in Auckland..... Some people had problems with checking in and reservations.. Also one big annoying thing is the steep hill from Queen Street to the hostel!! At the end of a busy day, a steep climb is the last thing you want to do... Also in the Auckland winter time, heaters may need to be rented because the building has no heat.
The hostel has a decent sized area for storage in the dorms. There are standard showers and washroom facilities on each floor, so if your floor's facilities are occupied, you can always try another floor. The City YHA is close to K' Road (also the closest place to get groceries!) and somewhat close to the Auckland Domain, Hospital, and accessible to Queen Street. | | | | Auckland International Hostel-YHA: AKL Best Hostel | Satisfaction: | | | | |
I spent almost a week there. It's clean, modern and staff is friendly. It has a comfortable big place at the entrance, for sitting, making friends, eating, reading or surfing the internet. It's also quite cheap, and location is central. You can walk to the Ferry Building in 15 minutes, going down Queen Street.
Good location, price, well kept. Theme: HostelPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: 5 Turner St., P.O. Box 68-149, Auckland, North IslDirections: From Ferry Building, walk up along Queen Street. Before reaching K' Road, turn left into Turner St.
