Help. Apartments in Auckland region.
by medicstudent
This is doing my head in.
Spent almost 2 weeks looking for a 2 bdrm apartment in the auckland area.. be it the CBD or the surrounding area. for 4 ppl. staying for 4 nights in early august 2-6th.
looking for an apartment that has nice views of the sea, or is situated at the beach.
is there such place? so far, no.
need help from fellow VTs to suggest an area with great views of the sea n coastline, yet not too far (15km or less)from the central auckland..
What beach is nearest to the city? any beautiful coastlines?
any help is very very much appreciated.
Help. Apartments in Auckland region.

These mid city apartments are very nice and lovely views:

Beaches near downtown are small: Tamaki Beach, Mission Bay, Kohimarama Beach and St Heliers Bay. However the road that links them to downtown is very congested at rush hours.
Auckland has hundreds of beaches, including some on the North Shore, which is a short ferry ride from the CBD.

Hi - not really classified as an apartment but the Park Lane Motor Inn in Takapuna (2 mins walk to the beach) which is just over the harbour bridge from the city has some interconnecting suites that can accommodate up to 5 people. They are on the
Cnr Lake Rd and Rewiti Ave, Takapuna Beach

Go to www.aatravel.co.nz for accommodation options.
Go to www.mustdos.co.nz for what to do in NZ
For a two bedroom apartment depending on budget I would stay in the city and just catch the bus to Mission Bay.
Try Heritage Hotel, Scenic Circle Airedale - Queen Street, Quest Apartments.
Have fun
Travel Tips for Auckland
Watch The Stars @ Stardome Observatory
by xuessium
I saw Saturn with the naked eye for the first time here.....via the telescope of course. I wasn't sure I was going the right way when I hop off the bus for the surrounding park of the One Tree Hill Domain was shrouded in darkness but walked several steps in, and you'll find the reassuring blue logo of the Observatory glowing.
It is not a very large observatory but that evening I found a very enthuiastic group of astronomy lovers leading a night observatory session. Scorpio was high up in the sky and the bright star of Antares was all upon us. I spent about an hour here and it was easily an enjoyable time.
If you are keen to catch the Stardome Show, please check the time on the website so that you did not miss it like I do.
To get here, catch bus services 302, 305 and 312 via Mid City.
Eastern Beach
by keeweechic
Eastern Beach was previously called Mason’s Beach. This beach was a great source for food, not only for the Maori but also for the Pakeha population that followed. The eastern beaches tend to have calmer waters and generally make for safe swimming.

Auckland Domestic Terminal
by Kakapo2
If you arrive from overseas and have a connecting flight to another destination in New Zealand you have to go through immigration in Auckland where your luggage is also checked. The bags never get checked through to other NZ destinations.
After the immigration procedure you have to re-check in your luggage. Air New Zealand has a counter next to the immigration exit in the Arrival Hall. If you fly with one of the other airlines (JetStar, Pacific Blue, etc.) you have to get your luggage to the Domestic Terminal and check it in there.
The Domestic Terminal is a 10 minute walk – along a blue line - from the International Terminal. Only walk in good weather conditions as most sections of the footpath are open air. You can take a trolley for your luggage, so it is easy walking in good weather conditions.
Especially from spring to January it is very nice to walk because the walkway is like a pohutukawa alley, and with the trees in red flowers you get a great welcome feeling ;-)
If the weather is rubbish or you are tired you can use the free shuttle bus that runs every some minutes between the terminals from 6am to 10.30pm.
The Domestic Terminal is closed from midnight until 5am.
Albion Hotel
by keeweechic
The lunch and dinner menu is basically the same. Some of the entrées are : soup of the day, basket of chips, butterfly prawns, bacon & camembert salad, Albion Burger, Steak or chicken sandwich. Mains choices are ham and mushroom pasta, stir fried beef & vegetables, Cajun chicken, Scotch Fillet, Fish of the Day, Sirloin Steak, Mixed Grill or an omelette. Dessert choices are limited from Brandy Snaps, hot fudge cake or fresh fruit salad.

by skywalkerbeth
we spent my last day driving through here. sat outside for lunch, and ended up back in Auckland in time to take in the top of Mt. Victoria and its views...
this photo is just of the fern fronds, all curled up, which is a New Zealand symbol!
