Public Telephones
by keeweechic
There is an abundance of public telephones in Auckland and most now accept PhoneCards or major credit cards more so than coins which can also be annoying if you don’t have and don’t want a phonecard. A local call from a public phone costs 20c per minute. You can buy PhoneCards, in denominations of $5, $10, $20, or $50, and can be found at shops displaying the green PhoneCard symbol.

Awesome Mussels!
by Kiwigirlie about The Occidental
This place used to be the place to hang out after work. It was dingy, drab and pokey. It was great!!! Then after three years away in London I came back and the place had transformed into a very smart trendy Belgium gastro pub. I was, to say the least, not impressed - that was until I got taken there for lunch. My opinion has certainly changed and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to anyone!
It's reasonably price - for three people who had four courses, beer, wine and coffees it came to $80 which is pretty good for central Auckland. And it's great place to hang out and watch the natives! The Mussel pot! WOW what a dish! NZ green lipped mussels in your choice of three or four sauces. Comes with a huge plate of hot chips and dips as well.
The Grange
by fishandchips about The Grange
The Grange is a nice restaurant & bar on Ponsonby Rd. It has a small but very good menu and a well stock wine cellar with some rather pricey bottles of wine. I was here 9 June with my old work mates celebrating our team being disestablished and had some really yummy food. My Lamb Rump was a very large portion as was the duck, salmon and chicken that my team mates had. On a negative note, we needed to order extra veges (beans, cauli & broccoli and roast spuds) on the side as the mains didn't really have much in the way of veges. Some of the guys had dessert and this looked good though bad for the middle!!
The service was quick and nothing seemed a problem. My only real complaint was with the lighting which was too low for my liking - I had to move to a better lit area to read the menu! The Lamb Rump was very very nice and was a good sized portion. The cost of $32 was okay though when you add in the extra veges it was reaaly more like $39 for the main.
