Maori Culture
by ATXtraveler
Aotearoa - Land of the Long White Cloud is the Maori name for New Zealand, and its Maori roots are evidenced even in the middle of downtown Auckland. From the Auckland Museum to the Skytower, and throughout the streets evidence of this heritage is apparent.
As we strolled along in the ground floor of the Skytower, we saw this great Maori carving. It features the intricate woodworking, and of course the traditional Paua shell eyes. We would learn more about this culture on our trip to Rotorua.

Explore the Islands of the Hauraki Gulf.
by Robdaz
The Island we visited was Motuihe Island, one of the many islands around Gulf. As auckland is surrounded by waters , it was great opportunity to enjoy themselves on this very well organised company family day. Everyone assembled at the Subritzky cargo wharf
near the tank farm early in the morning. We were all take a slow cargo barge to the island.
There were lots of drinks and a Jazz Band to entertain us on the way to the Island and the kids were kept busy ( and quiet) by magicians, clown and face painters.

When the Westfield group took over there was a major redevelopment and the new and improved Glenfield shopping centre was opened in 2000. There are 177 specialty stores and kiosks, 4 major retailers which include Foodtown, Farmers, The Warehouse and the other major grocery chain, Countdown. There s also a foodcour which seats 600 people.
The BEST restaurant in Auckland!
by Bunnylbj about Antoine's
Whenever we all want to go out for fine dining or to celebrate something, Antoine's is the place. It is quaint, very upscale with the most delicious cuisine. My husband's parents also are friends with the owners and they always do their best to give us their best. Everything is great, honestly. The Bluff oysters are superb
Restaurant with a view...
by worldkiwi about Art Ducko
Art Ducko is situated in Waiake on Auckland's North Shore. The restaurant is opposite the beach and there are fantastic views from just about any seat in the place! The menu is quite pricey, but the food is well prepared and well presented. The desserts are served up as a real treat, both to the eye and the palate. The service is very good.
One drawback to this place is that the wine menu is limited. There is only one variety of red served by the glass, so if you like Merlot, you have to buy the whole bottle!
The theme of the restaurant is most definitely ducks! They're everywhere. There's plenty on the menu beside duck though. I had the venison steak when I went in September 2005. The steak was prepared excellently, bu unfortunately in January I had been spoilt by experiencing wild venison steaks and the flavour of this particular piece of meat just didn't compare.
