The only international quality hotel left in town

Westin. Gone.

Sheraton. Gone.

Hyatt. Gone.

Hilton Auckland is the only decent international hotel left in the city. Awesome lobby bar. Great Restaraunt. Excellent service.

And nice rooms. Modern "white on white" with the usual Hilton quality.

Plus its a stones throw away from the award winning Euro Restaraunt and the CBD.

Unique Quality: If you're on the Harbourside... mind the curtains. That's where the cruise liners dock

Fab Apartment

We stayed at the Hilton Apartments recently after a around the world trip(last leg), it is located on the waterfront, which is also apart of the Hilton Hotel complex. We arrived very early from an overnight flight from Chile, and we were welcomed by a warm, cheerful and contented staff , even at 4.30am.

Our apartment was magnificent, a two bedroom , two bathroom modern self contained unit with an enormous balcony, which looked directly onto the spectacular serene Auckland harbour.

The apartment consisted of a large modern kitchen with marble bench tops, fridge, microwave, dishwasher, kettle, coffee and tea facilities, pots, pans and other useful cool kitchen stuff.

Lounge room was elegantly furnished with large four seater couch, chairs, dining table for six, TV, DVD, coffee table, lamps, and working desk with internet broadband.

The main bedroom had a king size bed with a gorgeous walk-in dressing room, bathrobes and fluffy towels , safe, and a luxury en suite bathroom which you could fit a harem in.

Second bedroom had twin beds, although slightly smaller it suited our two adult teenagers, plus they had a separate bathroom across the hallway...they felt very much at home.

The balcony which lead off the lounge room was enormous, an large outdoor setting was also provided, with a coffee in hand you could watch the early morning ferries bustling for space at the wharf terminals. Night time, was also outstanding, with sparkling dazzling lights.

Breakfast....... brilliant l...waterfront views ,although you had to walk down the path (approx 3mins) into the main Hilton complex, the variety was what was expected for a 5 star hotel, European and American.

Unique Quality: Location: On the waterfront, just a five minutes walk up to the CBD.

Heaps of nightlife around this area and exceptional good restaurants.

Staff: Fab…always had a huge smile.

I highly recommend this hotel, especially the apartments, they are very unique with delightful views...very chic, stylish and modern which would suit most budgets.

We booked this hotel on [-]wotif.com.au and we got the most incredible deal for a family..( US $200.)

I give the whole experience a big 5 plus….and I am very finicky and picky….a wonderful place to stay if you have a group or family…or even for a couple.

Negative: the apartments are not serviced, (hence no mini bar) and if a cruise ship happens to be in town, you have a problem, and you would not have a water view…the ship would be looking into your room…that’s how close you are to the water…I guess its called luck….Good Luck.!!

Positive: there is a good little supermarket just two mins away to buy wine, beer, milk etc. for stocking up your big fridge.

Auckland's Best Location.

If you looking for delux accomodation and great location in the downtown area there no better one then the Hilton. It's built over the wharf in the shape of a cruise ship. It got amazing views over the water. Check out the website.

Hilton Hotel

The hotel sits right on Prince's Wharf and overlooks the harbour. Its really quite a different shape and can look a little like a luxury cruise ship moored there. In fact, visiting passenger liners, moor right alongside the hotel and use the conference and meeting facilities for embarking and disembarking. Behind the hotel are 65 serviced apartments which are managed by the Hilton – 3, 2 and a studio apartments which is available for long or short/casual stays. Surrounding the hotel are restaurants, cafes, duty free stores and various other retail outlets. You can access the hotel from Hobson and Quay Streets

5 star hotel = Hilton

A wonderful view - just 180 degree view of the sea... only thing is very starck white, clean lines modern building But seriously I was rather doubtful of the location, it is close to the wharf, and to eh America Cups location but I was not too pleased with walking around the area full of untenanted units at the connecting ground level.

One unique feature is the swimming pool....cool idea. They have something similar at the Adelphi in Melbourne

More about Hilton Auckland

Great hotel

by TripAdvisor Member hhl

We stayed at the well located Hilton in Auckland for 2 nights before our return to the US and loved it.
The service is the best in New Zealand, the food very good and rooms very comfortable.

The small hotel is in a new complex on the pier which is designed to look like a ship, kind of art deco/ modern. The decor is also modern and attractive.

Our room overlooked the water and had a balcony with table and chairs. The bath had a large tub with separate shower. The bed was comfortable.

The workout room is very nice with new equipment - 2 treadmills, 1 elliptical, 3 bikes, free weights, and a few machines. The outdoor pool is a 'tepid'single lap pool due to space constraints but has a stunning view.

The buffet breakfast is excellent with lots of offerings meant to please everyone. We had 2 dinners there which were both very good nouvelle cuisine.
I'd stay there anytime and be delighted.

Great Cruise Ship Location

by TripAdvisor Member Rocket88

We stayed at the Auckland Hilton in February 2006 and here is what we observed:

-This is the BEST possible location if you are arriving or departing on a cruise ship. The ships dock adjacent to the hotel on Princes Wharf so when we checked out the bellman picked up the luggage from our room and took it outside directly to the luggage loading area for the ship--no taxi, no waiting, no hassle.

-The cruise ships block the harbour view from many rooms but we stayed in room #707 which was high enough up and far enough to the end of the pier so that our view was not restricted at all. Our room had a balcony with chairs that allowed us to sit and watch the activity in the harbour during cocktail hour. The hotel has a calendar of cruise ship arrivals so they can tell you when there may be an obstructed view during your stay but you need to ask for it.

-The hotel will accept your Avis rental car and arrange to have it returned to Avis. This a major convenience. We rented our car at the airport, drove up to the Bay of Islands for several days and then turned the car in at the hotel rather than drive all the way back to the airport which is on the other side of town about a 15 mile/$25 taxi ride away.

-The hotel is located within walking distance of the downtown shopping area as well as the Sky Tower which has a great view looking back at the hotel. You can also see the hotel from the Orbit Restaurant in the Sky Tower.

-The only negative we found was the outrageous cost of breakfast in the hotel--this is easily overcome by walking 5-10 minutes to one of the cafes in town for breakfast.

-Don't be turned off by the outward appearance of the hotel. Aside from being one of the ugliest and most grotesque things you've ever seen in you life this hotel is very stylish on the inside and the rooms are worthy of 4-star ratings. Why the exterior was designed in such contrast to the interior is a puzzle to me.

-Value is not part of the hotel's marketing strategy--this is an expensive place to stay. But the convenience of the hotel's location for cruise ship arrivals/departures makes it very attractive for cruise passengers and the harbour views and central location also justify the reason to stay there. If none of those things are of interest to you there are probably other places nearby with better value. Since we were leaving on a cruise ship the next day I thought the convenience was worth the cost.

Much more than just a Hilton

by TripAdvisor Member !!

We stayed here for a week with our 6 year old son. Our room was huge, easily swallowed up an extra single bed and had a spacious balcony from which to watch the boat traffic. Make sure you request a water-view to make the most of the unique location of this hotel.
We had a cruise ship alongside for a day which we found quite a novelty ... however it was a modestly sized vessel and did not block any light - I understand that this is not always the case so might be best to check. More important than losing light is the privacy issue as the cabins of the boat may be lined up with a direct view into your room!
The only criticism that we had during our stay was that the breakfast was not included in the room rate - paticularly annoying to have to pay for the very small appetite of a young child.
Otherwise - the sun-filled restaurant was stunning (only ate there for breakfast), the gym and pool were small but beautifully formed, the staff incredibly friendly (esp. the valet parking staff) and the location with proximity to great restaurants and bars (we loved Portofino for fab Italian and Soul for lively modern NZ cuisine) unbeatable.
This hotel is highly recommended - pricey (esp when you add on all those little extras which the room rate excludes) but the surround-sound-seascape is worth every penny.

Overrated

So it's at the end of the viaduct, wow. It didnt live up to our expectations. While clean & modern (to be expected) our room was tiny! The staff were uninterested and it lacked atmosphere. We had friends stay at the Sebel apartments for much less and were more in awe of the size of their apartment than the location of the Hilton. Overrated and overpriced!

Better than average Hilton

by TripAdvisor Member baileyd72

We stayed at the Hilton in Auckland at the end of May, 2006. Our room was ready when we arrived at 5:00am - and they upgraded us to a water view (on an HHonors points stay). The room was clean and large; the bedding was new and comfortable. It was nice to have both a deep tub and a shower. As Hilton's go, the facility was definitely better than average. The front desk staff and concierge were both quite helpful - with rental cars and movie times.

The only drawback is location - there's nothing very close at all. The few restaurants right nearby are quite average. If you go over to the other pier, there are a lot more restaurants and shops. It's not a long walk to anything, but the hotel feels very isolated.

We would stay again. We're pretty finicky travelers and like to stay in nice places. We planned our whole New Zealand itinerary based on Tripadvisor reviews - and we didn't go wrong once.

Just Superb

by TripAdvisor Member HengyChat

What a great hotel, we just loved.
Had an executive room with a large terrace overlooking the harbour, it was just great. Superb funiture to laze away the time.
Restaurant and bar great, nice touches and good menu.
Staff ok, alittle too keen at times, but would never grumble about this or their enthusiasm.
Despite the location of being down a semi side road, it just doesnt matter.
Just great.(PB)
