leave your luggage at...
by zlatiq
For 2 NZ dollars you can leave your luggage for up to a day down in the "Discover NZ"" tourist office at 180 Quay street.
It's very conveniently locatied, as it's downtown right at the quay and across the street from the bus station. Also from here you can pay for and get the airbus to the airport in case you need to get there

Auckland Festivals Galore
by AllieF
Auckland has a lot of really good, free festivals that are put on at different times throughout the whole year. There are multicultural ones like Diwali (Indian new year), the Lantern festival (end of the Chinese New Year) or the largest Polynesian festival, Pasifika. There are musical ones like the Mission Bay Jazz & Blues Streetfest or Music in the Parks throughout the summer, where even some popular New Zealand artists perform with free general admission.
The one I would most recommend going to is Pasifika, which is very busy and can be a little dizzying, but is worth spending the day soaking up the different Pacific Island countries and their culture.
Crystal Mountain Theme Park
by keeweechic
The property also has a theme park which includes pony rides, a bungy trampoline, or you can pan for crystals. There are plenty of animals the kids can also enjoy while taking a Crystal Mountain Express Train ride around the property.
Walking
by grkboiler
Auckland has a small downtown area and everything is easily accessible by foot, especially if you are staying in a central location. It is also very safe here. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the city by walking while you are there.
If you are in a hurry, taxis are easy to find.
Angus Steakhouse
by fishandchips about Angus Steakhouse
Angus is a smaller restaurant in the back streets of downtown Auckland. Located off Fort St, Angus has its focus on steak but you can also get port chops and rack of lamb. All are $32 so your choice is the cut of meat rather than worrying about the price of each.
You don't pick your steak from a menu, you go to the steak display and pick the actual piece of meat you want and give it to the cook. The portions are fairly large with several varieties of cut (Rib eye, sirloin, fillet, T bone, scotch fillet, rump etc) and plenty of pieces of meat to choose from. After choosing your meat, a visit to the salad bar is the next step!
The restaurant is rather busy though your meal doesn't seem to take too long to get cooked. I got a scotch fillet and it was not too bad. I asked for it medium rare and it was cooked closer to medium but good all the same. Options of onions or mushrooms were available also.
