Character Building at a Fantastic Location

The name of this motel has been wrong in the VT database forever (Parnell's Village Motor Lodge instead of Parnell Village Motor Lodge). Now it is even more wrong because the name has been changed into Parnell City Lodge. I have notified VT staff and hope for speedy correction. - Update 5 March 2010: I have been hoping since November 2009 in the meantime...

Parnell City Lodge

This motel is at an absolutely fantastic location if you want to explore Auckland. Situated at the top of Parnell Road, so you have the nicest restaurants, cafés and shops of fashionable and romantic Parnell at your doorstep, can walk down the hill to the central city and the harbour, or in the other direction to Newmarket, and not to forget, Auckland Museum and the Domain are also up there.

If you are tired of walking in the city the super cheap Link Bus passes directly at the motel. So - if you have one - you can leave the car at the motel, do not have the stress to find a carpark in the city and save a fortune in not having to pay parking fees. I think, the location is not to top - just by the other few accommodation alternatives right around there.

Also the building is very appealing. It is a formerly white, now light green painted Edwardian style two-storey weatherboard house. They have all amenities of a modern motel including laundry, as well as several different accommodation types, from small studios (from $95) to Edwardian apartments (from $135) and two-room apartments (from $150). Add about $20 in the peak season and $10 for the small studios. (All rates as Nov. 2009)

Although situated on an important road the units are not noisy. But it is clear that it would be quieter in outer suberbs. Or down the parallel Gladstone Road which has nearly no traffic. I would always go back there if the price is right and I do not find a better rate on www.wotif.com at an accommodation nearby.

Now unlimited free wireless internet access.

Update Nov. 2009

The Parnell Village Motor Lodge has been renamed into Parnell City Lodge, thus the update. The old link www.parnellmotorlodge.co.nz still works and redirects you to the new address.

Village Motor Inn

The Village Motor Inn is at the top end of Parnell Village where there is plenty of dining and shopping, not to mention sightseeing. You can have the choice of Edwardian or modern-styled accommodation. There are the Edwardian Studio apartments which sleep 1-3 people and have a well equipped kitchen, or the two roomed apartments which have a patio or balcony with harbour views and sleep 1-4 people, living room and fully equipped kitchen, or maybe just the double/twin studio rooms which sleep 1-2 people with a fridge and tea/coffee making facilities.
