More about Peace & Plenty Inn Auckland (The)

Wonderful accommodation

by A TripAdvisor Member

We stayed at Peace and Plenty in January and had a wonderful time. Judy and Stanley made us so welcome and we thoroughly enjoyed Judy's fabulous breakfasts. The accommodation was superb and we couldn't have hoped for a better place to stay.

Simply the Best

by TripAdvisor Member JDandJB

The Peace and Plenty Inn in Devonport was our first port of call after arriving in New Zealand and, without doubt, the best. Judith's breakfasts are in a class of their own, and the house is just beautiful. Devonport is the perfect place from which to visit Auckland - just a 20 minute ferry crossing takes you straight the the city centre. Devonport itself has good restaurants and a great beach just 20 minutes walk away.

Best place to start our holiday!

We stayed at the Peace & Plenty at the very beginning of our 28-day trip around New Zealand and we were so lucky that this had been the first place to stay since it set the perfect mood to an altogether perfect holiday! It's conveniently located across from downtown Auckland, far away from the bustle yet totally central (just hop on the ferry!) and the house and grounds are just wonderful - the front and back garden were teeming with summer flowers, the Albert room was superb (what an exquisite bathroom!) and the first breakfast von NZ soil proved to be something altogether different: Fresh fruit salad, freshly baked muffins and the most wonderful scrambled eggs and salmon (only one thing to choose from a bunch of options) - we just loved it, really. Got a great recommendation for a dinner place, parking was also not a problem. Judith was so friendly and ever so helpful - we are really happy our holidays set off like this!

It feels like Home

by TripAdvisor Member LosAbuelos

Judy our hostess could not have been more friendly and helpful, particularly for someone (yours truly)who had forgotten to send the credit card info. Luckily she was able accomodate us and was very helpful in arranging a rental car close by. Her son Grant even took me to the rental agency to pick up the car. The accomodation was cheerful, bright and had a very special look of refined elegance. Very comfortable beds and luscious linens. Breakfast was very nice with many choices and if you did not have your fill then it was your own fault, all was excellent. Complementary Internet access was a real plus. The location, a hop step and a jump from the ferry dock is very convenient to all of Auckland. There are very nice local restaurants close by. Judy's recommednations were very helpful. My wife and I give Peace and Plenty our highest recommedation.

Heaven

The Peace & Plenty is ideally situated being just a two minute stroll to the ferry terminal. The decor is superb and breakfast is well worth getting up for. The best thing about staying at the Peace & Plenty is that it feels like being at home. If you get a chance take Stanley for a walk!!!!

Remarkable Bed and Breakfast Inn

by TripAdvisor Member nicav

This is one of the most beautiful and carefully concieved Inns that I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Every attention has been given to the detail of the decor, as each room is unique, immaculately clean and in careful care. A beautiful victorian home situated on a knoll above the park and harbor in Devonport, Auckland, it is surrounded by gem-like tropical gardens. The hostess Judy Machin is a very charming woman with the artist's eye for detail and the hostesses' for warmth. Her excellent recommended shuttle service, "Uncle Hardings Tours", is a great companion business. Uncle is a wonderful guide with great knowledge of the area. I can not recommend highly enough these two businesses whose focus is 'your comfort', a great blessing to the traveler who is unfamiliar with Auckland.

Home at the other side of the world!

by A TripAdvisor Member

Staying at the Peace & Plenty was more than lovely. Walking up the stairs being warmly welcomed by Judy made us feel at home in Auckland on the other side of the world at once. The interior is just beautiful. All the details make it a jewel. The breakfast is excellent and being located in the heart of Devonport is just perfect. This place is highly recommended by us!

I can't imagine a better place

by TripAdvisor Member GailGG

I'd highly recommend this place to any traveller who wants a warm welcome, a beautiful and spotless room, delicious food, and an ideal location. Our family of 4 arrived in Auckland after a grueling flight and were revived by Judy's energy and her lovely house and gardens. It was a great bonus to be picked up at the airport and dropped at her doorstep, a service she will arrange for you.

We enjoyed the proximity of cafes, shops, galleries and the Auckland ferry. Stanley the dog makes himself available for beach walks, if you are so inclined!

We enjoyed our 2 nights so much that we came back for one last night at the end of our South Pacific travels to fortify ourselves for the return trip.

A home away from home (even for locals!)

by A TripAdvisor Member

We were looking for a relaxing weekend getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city, somewhere with plenty of character..... The Peace and Plenty Inn at Devonport was the perfect place! We were greeted by warm hospitality and a waggy tail (courtesy of Stanley the labrador). The rooms were immaculately well-kept, filled with gorgeous Victorian-style decor - something rarely seen these days! And Oh the breakast! Judy will delight your tastebuds with delicious home-cooked breakfast (we recommend the cranberry mufflns, the waffles, toasted muesli... the list goes on). Overall, be assured you'll be well taken care of and expect to return again for more!

Airport to Glenfield

by beausimon

Hi,
I heard that it shuttles are a cheaper form of transport than taxis from the airport. Do shuttles just go from airport to hotels or do they go any place just like taxis? Do we need to make prior arrangements with a shuttle company or do we just flag them just like we do taxis?

I need to get from the airport to a friend's home in Glenfield.

Thanks.

Shuttles are a much cheaper option.
You can probably pick one up at the airport or perhaps prebook to ensure there will be a vehicle waiting for you.
Try aucklandairportshuttle.co.nz or airbus.co.nz

Shuttles are a cheaper option, but do not deviate much from a set route, if you live or are staying along their route they will collect you, but they do not offer the flexibility of taxis. The shuttle from auckland airport to downtown auckland costs $10pp, so if there are 4 of you, a taxi may be cheaper.
