Stay in the heart of the City

by ATXtraveler about Hyatt Auckland

If you are staying in the greater Auckland region, you may consider staying in the CBD of Auckland, as there are plenty of options for hotels. Sarah and I took advantage of our time in Melbourne by finding a good rate at the Hyatt Auckland for the night we met all the VTers in Auckland!

This hotel was definitely nothing special, but it did have a good view of the harbor and it was much more affordable than the Hilton which was right on the water. We ended up getting a hotel of the same calibre for just a fraction of the price.

Good Hotel

We stayed at the Hyatt a total of 7 nights. We really liked it for the value. Although it wasn't luxurious, it was clean and comfortable. The staff were great!!! They were really friendly despite us having to ask them questions every 5 minutes! We upgraded to the regency club and the complimentary breakfast and cocktails were great. All of the food was delicious. The location is not bad but the complimentary shuttles were great!!Overall, we had a great time and were very pleased with the Hyatt Regency Auckland.

Club rooms at the Hyatt a must!

by TripAdvisor Member rock_kape

My wife and I stayed at the Hyatt, Auckland in April 2005, we found the staff excellent, the accommodation was very comfortable contrary to other reviews, they are erecting another section of the Hotel but if you left your window closed during the day you could not hear the construction. I would highly recommend the Club floors.. The views over the harbour are fantastic from the Club lounge. Overall very happy.

The Hyatt was in a great location

I just recently spent 4 nights in the Hyatt, Auckland Dec 25th-29th. We were happily upgraded and for those who have points, I do recommend trying to upgrade to the new residential tower or splurge for a better room. The other building's rooms are okay - but the Tower's are far more impressive. The service was top notch and the gym (no fee!) was really nice. The location was above the main area on a hill - better to walk off all of those great new zealand beers. I've heard the older part of the buildling is slotted to be remodeled in 2006... that would raise my opinion of this hotel even further.

2 in 1, Auckland

We stayed here on two different occasions, each time in a new room. Our first room in Residences building was a standard clean room with a fully equipped kitchen. The bathroom had a separate shower. Our second room was a junior suite. It came with a kitchen too. A designer professional dishwasher was to die for. Still dream about it. This wing was just opened and according to the management, nobody lived there before. Both rooms had a wrap-around balcony. The only drawback was the construction outside. However, once the balcony door was closed, there was no more noise.
With our second stay, we had an access to the very big club room with 360-degrees-view of Auckland. The breakfast buffet was huge. Afternoon tea came with cookies. The best part was in the evening; large selection of snacks, fruit and drinks, including New Zealand wines, made us very happy.
Nevertheless, the service was not that great. The check-in counter was surprisingly small and very slow. Parking was confusing. The guests had a discounted parking rate; however, we had to pay it downstairs, in the garage. The location of the hotel was great, very close to the central shopping district. Even though it was next to the university, the surroundings were clean and there was no inappropriate noise.

Central and acceptable

you'll read from others that there is construction in the area. Well, yes, this is a growing, modern city. I stayed in the newer tower of the property and saw some of the construction, but it was kept under control and didn't seem to cause too much anxiety. The room was a small apartment, a nice suite with a huge balcony. It was appointed in a very modern style with, perhaps, too much furniture in it. The best thing about this property is its location -- right across from Albert Park and the University of Auckland, it was a short walk to the downtown heart of the city. I never hired a taxi once.
