by mike2873
Hi
I am planning a trip to Auckland, Newzealand this coming July 8 for 6 days together with my two daughters ages 13,12
I like to know please what is the best 5 or 4 stars hotels to stay in that has the best location which is close to good restaurants ,malls shopping centers so we could just walk from the hotel since that i am not driving and if you can suggest more places to visit.
thanks so much

The Hilton is right at the cruise ship terminal, next to Viaduct Harbour, 200 metres from Queen Street.
The Copthorne Harbour City is more or less opposite the Hilton on Quay Street.
Sky City would be another option, more centrally located in the CBD, next to Sky Tower.
But there are several other nice hotels in this area. The ones I mentioned are just the really high quality ones.

I stayed at the Copthorne Harbour City. It's one of the better value for money 4 star hotels - ie not too over priced as its not overly fancy. Great location for the ferry for the islands, the marina and restaurants and a not-too taxing walk to the Tower and CBD.
Recommend taking the ferry out to Waiheke Island and also the short ferry trip across the bay to Davenport. Buses on Waiheke link to the ferry arrival but is also easy to walk round parts of the island. Waitakere Ranges are stunning - organised day trip for this. And if they're like my two daughters, there are plenty of shopping opportunities in the CBD!

The Crowne Plaza is very central - less than 5 mins walk to either the Sky Tower or Queen Street so there's plenty of restaurants and shops close by :) The Auckland Museum and nearby Parnell (pretty area with lots of small shops & cafes) area are both worth a visit.

Travel Tips for Auckland
Airport departure tax time-saving tip
by Steavis
There are more sheep than people in New Zealand but don't be one of them. When paying your departure tax at the airport, don't line-up downstairs opposite check in or upstairs near departures when you can go to the little window next to McDonalds at arrivals. There is never anyone there. Departure tax is NZ$25.
Aotea Square
by vtveen
Starting at the Waterfront by the Harbour Building Aotea Square is at the end of Queen Street: the most important shopping street in Auckland.
But to be honest: nothing special.
At the square you will find the Aotea Centre, a modern theatre, a cinema and an entertainment centre.
On the other side is the Town Hall of Auckland, an Edwardian building.
The wooden gate (waharoa) at the entrance of the square is made by a Maori artist named Selwyn Muru.
westfield shopping downtown
by diggingdeep about Westfield Shoppingtown
Yup, another westfield! This one is in Queen Elizabeth II square opposite the bus station.
Quite a decent size food court inside and a few shops to browse around, but i still think there are better shops outside. I bought just a few little souveniers, some paua shells and a few wooden bookmarks.
Trains in Auckland
by Xtian
All trains arrive and depart from the Britomart Transport Centre in the CBD. There are three suburban services, running south through Newmarket to Papakura, east via Glen Innes to Papakura and west through Henderson to Waitakere.
An experience.

This is a very cute little place, set among a residential area not so far from Parnell Village.
The atmosphere is fun and friendly as you sit among some of the more "successful" members of the community. There just seemed to be an excessive amount of continental cars parked outside. The salads are interesting and delicious, all very fresh and lovely.
Some really nice tarts and sweets to have with really nice coffee.
I did the lunch thing here, and can thoroughly recommend this experience.
Questions and Answers
Q: Currency exchange in Auckland "Where can I change NZ currency in New Zealand?
Banks or money changer?"
A: "It might depend on what you want to change it FOR, that is, what currency you want to BUY with the NZ currency you are "selling"! Foreign currencies not onhand might have..."
