 My wife had the extreme misfortune to have to stay here while transferred to Auckland for 3 weeks.
The "D" rating posted for the restaurant should have been a clue as to the quality of the hotel in general.
Hot water - sometimes. Most days she had to take a cold shower before work.
Bedding - hotel wanted an extra $20 a day for clean sheets. Not getting clean sheets everyday would have been o.k for a one night stay but not for an extended period.
Towels - not changed except by mistake. If this had not happened 2 times then the towels would have been left unchanged for the whole nearly 3 weeks.
Rubbish - not taken away.
Toilet paper - not refilled.
Bed - uncomfortable.
Bedding - found one group of happy tourists at least - colony of Ants living in bedding. Reported to reception & their reply was that they would send up a can of bug killer the next day. Never happened.
My wife's room was over looking the car park. Noisy at all hours with cars honking horns & going in & out plus the added attraction of people standing outside smoking & talking loudly well after midnight.
We have stayed in Youth Hostels in other countries that were far superior to this so called hotel, & for a hell of a lot less money a night.
Would never go back to the Rainbow Hotel.
Would never send anyone, worst enemy excluded, there.
Avoid like the plague ! - probably has that hiding away somewhere in the kitchen.
