The Cascade Kauri forrest is a great day out, a 35 minute drive from the city or 10 minutes from our home, you will find large kauri trees, many over a hundred years old and many very pleasant picnic areas.
An hour bush walk will show you native bush, native birds, streams and the great Kauri tree! Or you can take one of the many longer bush walks and be amased!

Tip Top
by keeweechic
Tip Top has always been an icon of New Zealand and to Aucklander’s and surrounding areas, the Tip Top building and sign heading into the Auckland area has always been the sign that you are almost there. That’s certainly the way it was to our family when heading back home after family holidays. Tip Top is New Zealand's leading ice cream company. Some of the good old favourites are Trumpet, FruJu, Jelly Tip, Popsicle, and newer favourites - Chill, Memphis Meltdown, Moritz and Paradiso. They have two factories, one at Tip Top Corner in Mt Wellington, and one in Christchurch. The Christchurch factory is more for meeting the specific demands of the Japanese market.
In 1997, Tip Top was purchased by a West Australian company (Peters & Brownes Foods from Heinz Watties) which has made them the largest independent ice cream business in the Southern Hemisphere.
Location : Tip Top Corner, Mt Wellington
Getting around Auckland
by xuessium
Auckland is quite easy to get around and the easiest way is really via public buses.
For the inner city, The Link travels to several major sights such as The Skytower, Victoria Park Market and Queen Street. The service is NZ$1.60 per ride (circa May 2008), regardless of distance.
For trips beyond the inner city, the main bus service is operated by Stagecoach. Fares are determined by distance.
Posh bar tucker!
by allikat about Iguacu Restaurant and Bar
Iguacu is a nice restaurant and bar in trendy Parnell, one of Aucklands more fashionable areas. The restaurant is quite big, with an outside dining area at the front.
We stuck with the bar, which was very indoor/outdoor all at the same time, and very relaxed. Ordering a couple of bar meals to go with our drinks, we expected a bowl of wedges and a couple of spring rolls. Which is what we did get, except these were probably the best presented bar meals I have ever seen! And they weren't any more expensive either. And they tasted every bit as good as they looked. The spring rolls with char siu dip....fresh, light and absolutely delicious!
Stunning Sky Tower
by ericajane503
The Sky Tower is the tallest tower in the Southern Hemisphere. It's 360 degree views are amazing and you can spot practically any Auckland landmark (including my house) from it!
The Restraunt is also great, as it revolves round!
You can also climb to the top of it and also jump off it (with a harness)!
