The best hotel in Auckland

This hotel is ideally situated just metres from Queen Street.

Unique Quality: It has a tunnel connecting it to the Aotea Square where most of the shows in Auckland are held and is withing walking distance of the Sky Tower and the Viaduct Basin, the home of the America's cup.

Rendezvous Hotel - formerly Carlton Hotel

The Rendezvous is a good place to stay as it is well located at the top of Albert St so not too far from Queen St shopping or places to eat off Albert St. The rooms are all of a good size with some bigger variations on the higher floors.

If you upgrade to Club Class you will get free breakfast each morning and free drinks between 5.30pm & 7pm each evening. The Club lounge is a bit small but has good views over downtown Auckland and the Sky Tower.

Check out their website for special pricing and always try to talk about room price and getting a better deal.

Unique Quality: The hotel has an okay gym and a couple of restaurants but you will probably want to eat out.

Great location - walking distance to everything

Stayed 10 days and enjoyed the ease of getting everywhere. The Free bus was only one block away as was the Casino. 10 minute walk to the Harbour and City.

Unique Quality: Pool and Gym facilities are great but the views were limited by other buildings. The meals were also great.

More about Rendezvous Hotel

very good price for a very good hotel

by TripAdvisor Member olivierbrussels

We are not used to 5* hotels(first time) and we offered ourselves two nights in this one. Obviously, there must be better 5* hotel but anyway this one is very comfortable. Rooms are big and the pool is very nice. This hotel is situated near the centre (5min from Skytower) and the breakfast is great! And we paid very few money(about 150 NZD a night) which is really much cheaper than the other 5* hotels from Auckland.

If you want a bit of luxury, go to carlton hotel!

Fantastic value

I've stayed in hotels around the world and this is one of my favorites. We arrived early. The staff took about 15 minutes to check us in and because of the wait they upgraded us. Our Room was on a higher floor and had a beautiful view of the SkyTower. The bathroom was to die for and the room was immaculate - though small. Took advantage of pool and rooftop deck. the indoor atrium is spectacular - easy walking distance to queen street. I am from NZ and it was a wonderful spot from which to show my American husband around. I have nothing but great memories of our stay.

Very good value for money

I got a great rate on their website. The hotel is very well located, staff were very helpful, big clean room and bathroom. Is not exactly a 5 star (maybe it was 10 years ago) but i had a great stay and would definetely stay there again

Great Value For Money

We started off our trip to New Zealand by staying at the Carlton for three days and only have good things to say about it. The room was excellent, the service and staff were very good and the inclusive breakfast on the top floor was well above average and offered the opportunity for good views across the city centre. The gym and swimming pool complex compare very well with other similar hotels with a good range of equipment.

The hotel is well located in the centre of the city, a 5 minute walk from Sky City and the main CBD area. There are a number of good restaurants in the immediate area.

Not as good as Crowne Plaza

by TripAdvisor Member Metwo3

I booked an online deal for room only, requesting nonsmoking. When I arrived at 9pm I gave my ID and name and was handed someone else's paperwork to sign. I pointed out the mistake and clerk found the proper paperwork and I reminded him of nonsmoking request. Off to my room--precooled air conditioning nice after heat outside, lovely decor with desk and sofa, and an ashtray on the table. So on the phone asking for another room. Porter assisted to another floor to not as nice room--twin beds, scraped up walls, shower with just a curtain in the corner of bathroom, hot, and no directory of hotel services. Obviously only used when everything else is full but porter said this was the new wing.

Used the exercise room and it was OK.

Asked to use the shuttle service but they weren't offering it as they had no drivers.

Upon checkout next morning I asked to store my luggage for a few hours. The desk clerk didn't understand, the concierge kept asking if I had arranged transportation and kept trying to take my bags to the door. I know I have an American accent, but I think I was speaking clearly about wanting to store my luggage at the hotel until 3pm. The staff that morning was more comfortable speaking among themselves in Chinese.
