Help Needed :NZ, best choice of a good local tour operator & value for money to BOI

by sw_alvin

Can someone help. I'm trying to make up my mind on whether to choose Great Sights tours, Gray Lines tours or Innz Travel to my 1 day tour to Bays of Islands (BOI). Can someone who have actually been on either one of these tours or heard of any comments with regards to these tour operators services and value for money be so kind to feedback to this post.
Their itinarary and prices seemed almost identical. Some testimony or personal user experience might help me to make a decision. Many thanks

Great Sights is the biggest one of the three you have listed, you see them everywhere.

Unfortunately I cannot tell you this. I have only done the bus trip from Kaitaia or Ahipara to Cape Reinga, and that was with Harrison's Cape Runner. The rest of my trips by rental car or - in the Bay of Islands - with friends and/or their car.

of the lot id go with great sight tours (though a bit of a big bus experience). if you have the time id recommend getting your own or public transport up to the bay of island and spend a few days exploring.

Travel Tips for Auckland

The four seasons

by mashed_NZ

Most likely large would be best for all the shopping and also to be prepared for all types of weather. Bring everything. You'll experience all four seasons in one day in Auckland. During summer, it can get quite hot, but if you're in the shade and its a little windy, then it will be cold. Then it might have a bit of a shower in the afternoon. So you could be going from shorts and singlet to a jump and umbrella. In the peak of summer however, you'll get stretches of a week or 2 of beautiful sunny weather. Even in winter we have bright clear blue sky days, but just cold. Just you usual. Nothing special or extra needed. Bring a raincoat if you're coming in autumn or winter. Don't bother with camping in won't be fun. During summer its a great idea. Bring some hiking boots if you're into that.

East Coast Bays - beaches within reach of the city

by worldkiwi

If you are in Auckland in the summer and you want to have a day at a beach near the city (perhaps utilising buses), then the chain of beaches along North Shore's east coast (known as the East Coast Bays), are your best bet. This is Browns Bay, which has lots of cafes and shops and the bus from Auckland stops metres from the beach. This is a winter photo, so the water is a bit stirred up and there's lots of seaweed on the beach. However, in summer this is a popular spot.

by fishandchips about Galbraith's

Galbraith's is an english style pub at the beginning of Mt Eden Rd near to the Auckland CBD. It serves up a nice selection of meals and has a great range of beers brewed on site.

The Porter is really good as is the Best Bitter and these are served at cellar temperature as any good ale should be. Galbraith's also stocks a range of other beers plus a reasonable wine list.

The food is rather good to with the salt ans pepper squid great as a starter and yummy steaks. Smart casual is the dress code as is the case with most of Auckland.

Wood Fired Pizzas

by leffe3 about Manuka

Great place on Victoria St, Devonport. Double-fronted windows letting in lots of natural light, polished wood floors, orange, umber and contemp paintings on the wall (for sale), huge bar ad serving area, very friendly staff and great choice of food, wine and coffee. Pizzas are the bees-knees here, but so is the fish dishes (scallops to die for).
This was the best meal I had in Auckland. Scallops: pizza: great wine by the glass

McDonalds Restaurant

by kiwi about McDonalds Restaurant

The design of this restaurant is modern and spaceage.
It's situated near the waterfront of the city. You all know the menu, but be warned: NZ McDonalds do NOT sell salads as they do in Europe! I have no idea why and its a dreadful shame.
2003 Great news! We get salads at kiwi McDonalds now, at last they have seen the light!!!!
