Manukau Top Ten Campsite: Handy for the Airport

by Loops

One of the closest campsites we could find for the airport. We had a morning flight out of New Zealand and needed to drop the campervan off first thing so we chose this site as it was convenient. It was still a 20-30 min drive to the airport (depending on traffic) so if you've got a really early flight it might be best to drop your camper off the day before and stay in one of the closer hotels.

The site was pretty good - not as nice as the other Top 10s we'd stayed in but the showers were clean and hot and the kitchen was well equipped. It's an urban site and surrounded by a high fence and then houses, so not particularly peaceful but good enough for the convenience.

It was also the busiest site we'd stayed in, full of people getting their campers ready to drop off, so we were all queueing up to empty our toilets and fill our water tanks the next morning (best to leave a bit of time to do all that too if you choose this site for the same purpose).

This would also be a good site to stay at on arrival if it was getting late in the day and you didn't want to drive too far the first night.

We didn't book but in hindsight, at any other time of year it would be best to do so with it being so popular and if we ever wanted to stay there again I'd book (we stayed there in August).

There's a restaurant next door and a small retail park 5 min walk up the road. There was also a bus stop outside and you could get the bus into Auckland but we drove and that took long enough - I reckon the bus would take about 1.5 hours.

The Langham Hotel: Class in the Middle of Auckland

by SedonaDee

We stayed at The Langham Hotel in Feb. 2010 for two nights following a cruise that ended in Auckland. It was convenient to get from the harbor where our ship docked, and The Langham has a FREE shuttle service from the hotel to downtown and the wharf areas.

The hotel was lovely and well appointed. It has the feel of an older, very classy hotel, with very professional and attentive service. The rooms are not huge and we had a room with two twin beds when we would have preferred a queen or king room, but they can put the beds together to make a king if you prefer. They also have large suites, but we had reserved on hotels.com and had gotten a great rate of $145.65/night, so felt very satisfied with our room. It is easy to walk to restaurants, shopping, the Sky Tower, and to just enjoy the central downtown area.

The have wonderful & helpful concierge service and a very friendly staff in general. A lovely concierge by the name of Mikela (sp?) went out of her way to assist us in so many way. She was full of energy, class, and knowledge.

-Lovely decor. Beautiful & spacious lounge/bar off the reception area.
-Staff is top-notch.
-Convenient location.
-Outdoor pool, as well as new Chuan Spa and Health Club.
-Free Shuttle to downtown and wharf area.
-Many meeting rooms and beautiful, large banquet room.
-Many excellent restaurants very close to hotel.

SKY CITY HOTEL: SKY CITY HOTEL

by ITjetsetter

Very good stay in a central location ( just under the central town ) , big rooms and beds.
Night club and bars inside the building.
For a bit less quality you can find much more cheap in the same area!

in front of the bus- express stop from the airport

Spencer on Byron: Luxurious hotel in Takapuna

A huge single room with a great view in peaceful Takapuna.
The distance to city center is quite long though.

Hilton Hotel: Hilton Hotel

by kiwigal_1

The Hilton Hotel is one of the more up-market hotels in Auckland. It is in an interesting location too situated near the Viaduct Harbour on the wharf. The hotel is distinctive as it is shaped like a luxury liner. The hotel has a small pool with views of the harbour and a top class restaurant called White. The hotel is also very good for hosting conferences or weddings and other functions.

Hyatt Auckland: Stay in the heart of the City

by ATXtraveler

If you are staying in the greater Auckland region, you may consider staying in the CBD of Auckland, as there are plenty of options for hotels. Sarah and I took advantage of our time in Melbourne by finding a good rate at the Hyatt Auckland for the night we met all the VTers in Auckland!

This hotel was definitely nothing special, but it did have a good view of the harbor and it was much more affordable than the Hilton which was right on the water. We ended up getting a hotel of the same calibre for just a fraction of the price.

X base backpackers: Auckland backpackers

by danielinnz

No I haven't stayed here but as it is right next door to my office in the central city I thought I would go and check it out. Clean, tidy & friendly place which even has a "girls only" floor called The Sanctuary!! I wasn't allowed to check that floor out! It also has a roof top terrace so you can sit there in summer and wave to me slaving away in my office ;-)
