Hi - I'm staying in Auckland middle of February and was want to do a day trip to Rotarora Springs. Was wondering if I should pre book my day trip or to wait and book once I'm in Auckland? Can anyone recommend any tour sites?
What kind of tour are you wanting to book? Are you planning to stay in Rotorua for the night?
If you are planning to take a public bus from Auckland then you should book that ahead to get a cheaper deal. The website for that is www.intercitycoach.co.nz
There is plenty of information on activities on my Rotorua page with links to local operators. Take a look and feel free to email me with any questions.
Regards,
Rhianon
Hi there - we just wanting a day trip to pick us up and drop us back to our hotel and was wondering if you knew of any companies that can do this? And do they just go to springs or go to other places!
I don't know any of these from personal experience however a simple web search came up with these possibilities for you:
http://www.southpacifictravellers.co.nz/waitomo.asp
http://www.magicaljourneys.com/NewZealand/newzealand-travel-tours-rotorua.html
http://www.prinztours.co.nz/daye2.html
I hope this helps!

I tried hard during more than a week at the Mountainbike World Championships in August 2006 - but as we never knew when we would finish working we could not make a reservation, and so we missed out.
The place was highly recommended by locals, and obviously is the place to go in Rotorua. The food MUST be delicious. I also checked the internet restaurant websites, and nearly everybody was delighted and rated it highly. So I think it is well worth to be mentioned although I did not succeed to have dinner there.
Te Whakarewarewa' is a thermal park with huge geysers, the biggest being Pohutu, shooting hot thermal water out of the ground every few minutes! You can go visit bubbling hot mudpools which are just weird to look at!
Theres also Maori crafts and arts.
Also Kuirau park to see sulphur lakes, craters and boiling mud pools and other weird thermal activities, is worth going to see.
When you go visit the Rotorua Museum, you also get free admission to the Blue Baths, which is still in the same complex.
The Blue Baths used to be a fully functioning swimming area, until interest and funding dropped for the place, and then they turned it into a museum.
Inside you can learn alot about some of the people who have trained here, and also some of the fun to be had before.
I would not have paid to enter this directly, but since it was free with the entry to the Rotorua Museum, it was worth the extra ten minutes.
The champayne pool is very unique in the world, it has bubbling, hissing water with a beautiful ochre-colored petrified edge.
The colors here are just amazing, try and visit on a sunny day to really see the colors.
