Hells Gate is a vulcanic active region with lakes and puddles full of boiling water and mud. The place smells with sulfur and has funny signs everywhere to warn you not to wander from the path. It's also the home of Kakahi Falls, the largest hot waterfall of the Southern Hemisphere. Maori warriors would bath here to heal their wounds. It's really cool to walk around there.
As a Spa town Rotorua offers a good choice of spas and thermal baths. Among the most famous Polynesian Spa, there are also smaller but cheaper and less crowded thermal pools.
Blue Baths is one of them and it has been recently renovated, you find here one big pool and two smaller ones with various temperature. Enjoy!
The Lady Knox Geyser is a geyser in the Wai-O-Tapu area of the Taupo Volcanic Zone in New Zealand. It is named after Lady Constance Knox, the second daughter of Uchter Knox, 15th Governor of New Zealand. The geyser is made to erupt on a regular basis by dropping soap into the opening of the geyser. Eruptions produce a jet of water reaching up to 20m and can last for over an hour.
Prepare to get wet!
Make sure you make a booking with Tamaki Village - a very interesting bus ride to the village, cultural performance by the natives, local dinner - the hangi. After dinner, there will be a short show and then the bus ride back which is quite fun too. Really worth the money spent !
