Great Value for Money

While my family and I generally stay in 4 to 5 star accommodation, we wanted to save money on a recent holiday to Rotorua. After reading the good reviews about The Malfroy Motor Lodge, and seeing the reasonable rate for the room (just over NZ$100pn during peak season), we decided to book. We were not disappointed. We stayed in one of the studios with a spa/massage shower. The room was clean and tastefully decorated, the bed was comfortable and the kitchenette was sufficient for making our own breakfast and basic meals. The spa/massage shower was a bit gimmicky, but nice none-the-less. Probably my only criticism/suggestion would be for the Lodge to install some child-proof locks on the inside of their doors. My toddler could easlily unlock and open the front door which put him at risk of running out into the carpark.
The owners were obviously proud of their gardens which were beautifully maintained and created a small oasis around the back of the motel. There was a BBQ area, a thermal pool (which we didn't use) and a great little freshwater pool which our toddler loved. The freshwater pool was set at the perfect temperature for summer and due to the small size of the lodge it was rarely used despite being open 24 hours. This meant we had it to ourselves every time we used it.
With regards to location, the Malfroy is located about a 15 minute walk or a quick drive to the centre of town. It also a good central location for all the wonderful things you can do in the wider Rotorua area.
But probably the thing that stood out the most about the motel was the service. The owners were always friendly and helpful and went out of their way to ring around and find some attraction prices for me. They were kind to my son and they also recommended a great Thai restaurant which turned out to be delicious.
I will definitely recommend this accommodation to friends and would happily stay there again in the future.

Me and my girlfriend stayed in Malfroy Motorlodge for one week at Christmas and we could never had dreamed of so good service that we got there. Our car broke down at the time we were staying there and the hostes did everything to help us with the problem.
The studio we stayed in was spacious and beautiful with a nice backyard in a lovely garden.
The location is great, only a walking distance from the city centre.
If we ever go back to Rotorua, we´re defenitly staying there again.
We will always remember this place and the owners with kindness!

We had three delightful days stay at Malfroy Motor Lodge. Our host Ron was very helpful and welcoming. The unit was spacious with all the amenities we needed. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook basic meals/breakfasts. The barbeque in the lovely pool area is much better than what we have at home. I was also very impressed with the container inside for our organic waste and the bins outside for recycling paper/glass/cans. The gardens are exceptional - all available space has been very tastefully landscaped and is kept to a high standard.
Our 10 year old daughter spent every available minute she could in the fenced, heated fresh water pool or the thermal mineral pool. The availability of wireless network connection meant she was entertained in the evenings as well. It also meant we were able to book attractions online and keep up with emails.
The lodge's location is very central to all the wonderful attractions that Rotorua has to offer. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.

Malfroy offers everything you need - quality at a very good price

We spent five nights as an extended family at the Malfroy Motor Lodge and used the family unit plus a two bedroom unit. Spacious, comfortable and well appointed, the units had everything that we needed. Our hosts, Ron and Mairi, were also very accommodating and (without being nosey) regularly asked if we needed anything. The mineral pool, plunge pool and barbeque were frequently used.
We were impressed with Malfroy's environmental management plan. Waste was minimised through recycling of anything and everything that could be recycled.
The Malfroy is only a couple of blocks away from the Central Business District and restaurants and an easy walk or bike ride to the lakeside.

I booked my Canadian family into the Malfroy for three nights.
Ron demonstrated what an excellent host he was by staying up till nearly midnight when we became horrendously lost.
Ron and Mairi were wonderful: full of local knowledge and tourist venue suggestions and recommendations. One of my family was unwell and they were particularly concerned for her well being and ensured that we found the medical help she required.
The two bedroom accommodation was clean, comfortable, spacious and very centrally located.
The gardens were beautifully landscaped and it was a joy to use the plunge and mineral pools.
I thoroughly recommend the Malfroy to anyone visiting Rotorua.

Five adults stayed for one night on a four week tour of New Zealand. We can endorse the good reviews to date. Excellent hosts and clean and very pleasant surroundings. We would all return to this accommodation and we have already recommended it to friends.
We intended eating out at one of the different restaurants (recommended by hosts), but ended up buying snacks from Coundown and Pac'n Save supermarkets which were a five minute walk awy. There was a fish and chip shop even closer which proved too tempting for some of our hungry travellers.

me and my partner stayed for 3 nights on a mountain biking trip..when the wether packed in ron was there to give us suggestions and all the help he possibly could!!
the pool and bbq area was a nice suprise which will be used when we are more prepered next time
the room was so good and alot bigger than i would of expected!!

My husband, myself and our 12 year old daughter stayed in the family unit- overkill for 3 people, but we wanted to end our holiday in comfort. It was great! Comfortable beds and lounges and Ron and Marie are great hosts- they helped so much with advice on different attractions, and we finally got to do our laundry!!! The spa bath in this unit was amazing- an attraction in itself. I was the only one to brave the mineral pool, but we all enjoyed the ordinary pool- like so many motels in NZ, this had a gorgeous garden. We will be back!

We actually decided to stay here because of previous Trip Advisor reviews and we weren't disappointed. Ron and Mairie are lovely hosts from the minute you walk in to when you leave. Ron is always seen around the motel, gardening, doing stuff or happy just to have a chat. Mairie meanwhile provides a very warm welcome and has a wealth of knowledge on the local area and attractions that is easily shared.
The Motel is a delight and full of surprises, the first being the lovely courtyard gardens and of course the Mineral and plunge pools. These are open 24/7 and it was lovely to have a hot dip late in the evening. Another added bonus is the free high speed internet.
Our room was spacious and very comfortable. It was spotlessly clean, thanks to Steph, who again is always seen with a smile on her face.
The Malfroy is situated near to the centre of the town as well as supermarkets and local eateries. It's in an ideal situation.
We stayed for 5 nights as there's loads to do in and around Rotorua and we were sad to leave. This has been one of our favourite places on our trip and is highly recommended.
