Even the Skate Park in Napier is on Marine Parade, right on the foreshore (seems like just about everything in this city gets a great waterfront view and are ON the waterfront!)
In Oz, some of our skate parks can be a bit unsightly, but this one is so well painted up and decorated, it's an asset.

Fine beaches nearby Napier
Coming back from Cape Kidnappers during our bus tour, we had some stunning views on beaches along the Pacific Ocean. We decided to ‘search’ them. We drove through the very scenic valley of the Tukituki River beneath Te Mata Peak.
First we reached Ocean Beach, a lovely beach with fine sand; another 10 km’s further away is the beach of Waimarama. Both are very remote and we are sure you will be (almost) on your own when visiting one of these beaches.
This beaches are about 30 minutes drive from Napier.
Wine / Vino
About the New Zealand wines we should have much to say because I think they have reached a level of excellent quality
Despite seeing many vineyards and wineries throughout NZ, we decided to visit a winery near Napier, called Matariki.
The visit was excellent, we visited the vineyards, press areas, cellars , wineries ... and we tasted some excellent wines
Stunning - TE MATA PEAK
From Napier, head to Hastings, then Havelock North, and follow the signs to Te Mata Peak, about 30k's.
The Peak, is 400 metres above sea level, and was named after a Maori Chief Ta Mata O Rongokako, a giant of a man, who, acccording to legend, had the misfortune to fall for the beautiful daughter of the Heretaunga chief.
Amongst the challenges she set him to prove his love to her, was the task of eating his way through the hill. Unfortunately, he choked on a large rock and fell dead. The body of the chief and the large bite can be seen clearly on the skyline from Hastings.
The road up is quite steep and windy. There are also trails for walkers and mountain bikers. From the top, you can see for miles and miles, and the views are INCREDIBLE, this is one of the best lookouts for rural landscape.

Napier is a famous wine growing region in New Zealand. I do a wine tasting tour whenever I visit here. It is also the location of the last big earthquake to hit New Zealand in the 1930's. The whole city was devastated and had to be rebuilt. Consequently 1930's Art Deco style architecture can be seen all over the town.
Havelock North is an even smaller town south of Napier. It is home to the infamous Te Mata Peak and also a number of vineyards.
