If you're looking for somewhere romantic and with charm, I highly recommend Mon Logis B&B on Marine Parade. The building is one of the original pre-1930s earthquake survivors and as such has real character that is difficult to find in NZ where most accommodations are modern and personality-free. Beautiful French style with a wonderful host. Very worth the effort to book in early as it apparently books up well in advance, and I can understand why.
