If you want to get off the usual State Highway 1 and you are making your way north to Auckland or south to Wellington, then try State Highway 3 and the Parapara Rd, which leads you from Raetihi to Wanganui and vice versa. The road is rather windy but the scenery is spectacular and there are places where you can stop, have a relax and look at.
One of the features along this road is the "Raukawa Falls", which is about 30 kilometres south of Raetihi.
Please maintain the speed to which the road signs indicate, safe driving.
