Mangawhai Lodge: Mangawhai - B&B with a view

by vtveen

Mangawhai Lodge is a really fantastic bed and breakfast accommodation. Nice old wooden building, situated on a hill and overlooking the white sands of the Mangawhai Harbour. Our room (The Clipper) was open to the verandah with great views. On our first evening we were just sitting and enjoying the colourful sunset !!

Next morning we had a sumptuous breakfast, again on the verandah. Just a great start for another great day in New Zealand. Jeannette was a lovely host !!!

Harbourside Bed & Breakfast: Omapere - beaches and kauri's

by vtveen

We already did sleep twice in Harbourside Bed & Breakfast. From the deck you are overlooking the Hokianga Harbour with the townships of Omapere and Opononi and with a great view on the huge sand dunes on the other side of the harbour. It is a really great scenery.

We had a room with a sun deck, really nice in the afternoon after a long day driving.
The rooms are spacious with all amenities. It is a little bit a pity this accommodation is not like a real homestay, so the 'only' contact we had with the hosts is during breakfast.

Owaitokamotu: Northland - Whangarei

by vtveen

On our way north from Auckland we stayed in Owaitokamotu B&B near Whangarei.
This accommodation is situated on a small hill and overlooking a beautiful garden. These gardens should be an extra reason to stay here. With lots of flowers, rocks, ponds, bridges a (Dutch) windmill, native bush and a lot more.

From our spacious bedroom we had access to a large veranda with chairs with a view on the gardens and the hills of the Northland. The next day, after our breakfast we got a private guided tour from Minnie through 'her' gardens.

Owaitokamotu is a real homestay and in the evening we had very pleasant talks with our hosts Minnie and George.

Ferns Bed & Breakfast: Kerikeri - Scottish Hospitality

by vtveen

We have been several times to the Bay of Islands and always stayed in Paihia. But during our last trip we found accommodation in Kerikeri, a nice quiet village just 20 minutes drive from the 'hustle and bustle' of the Bay.

Ferns Bed & Breakfast is situated just outside the village and offers a GOOD rest and a GOOD breakfast. We had a spacious room with a door to the deck, overlooking the garden with ferns. In the morning we had a sumptuous breakfast. For dinner we were surprised by the number of restaurants in Kerikeri.

But most of all we did like the (Scottish) hospitality of our hosts Penny and Jim.

Bay Cabinz: Beatiful Wood Cabins

by stevezero

Ten cedar holiday units located in the center of Paihia, just 200 meters stroll to the many cafés, restaurants, beach, shops and the main Paihia wharf.
Each unit is self contained and nice and modern. Lovely bathrooms, and cooking facilities.
Good views from its location up on the hill.
Prices are very reasonable

Open plan modern design with separate bunkroom and bathroom

Taipa Sands Motel: Quiet Motel

by stevezero

Nice quiet motel set right on the beach. Clean and comfortable, with usual NZ extras like leccy blanket.

Set right on lovely beach on Doubtless Bay.

Saltwater Lodge, and others....: Backpacker Central - Paihia.

by worldkiwi

Paihia is the main place for backpackers in the Bay of Islands. There are at least five big backpackers including a YHA one. I stayed at Saltwater Lodge in 2004, which was excellent. In 2006 I stayed at the Peppertree Lodge, also in the backpacker area. See my Paihia page for more information about these two hostels.
There are motels out of the backpacker area and resorts in the Bay of Islands.

Matauri Bay Camp: Matauri Bay

by kiwiwahine

Matauri Bay has an all year round Camping Ground that has everything you'll need to have a great holiday. Beautiful views from right on the beach, awesome walking tracks around the rocks, the Rainbow Warrior Memorial, and of course, all the water activities you can imagine. Matauri Bay Holiday Park have Caravans with Awnings, Power Sites, and Tent Sites.

Family run business, owned and operated by a local maori family trust. Lots of young people looking for fun in the sun. Great fishing and shell fish harvesting.
