Paihia's only five star backpackers.

I stayed in Saltwater Lodge for four nights while I was in Paihia. There were six of us, so we had a room to ourselves, which made it much better than sharing with people you don't know!

Unique Quality: All rooms have attached bathrooms and toilets. The rooms are carpeted and very clean. Some rooms have three bunks (sleeping six) and some apparently have two (sleeping four). There was plenty of space in the rooms. The lounge area is very nice and the kitchen is well equipped (except for a bottle opener/cork screw). It is a very short walk to bars and the beach.
The neighbouring bar can be a bit noisy at night if you have to leave the window open.
The guest car parking area is the best I've seen in a hostel - it's all undercover.

Great Backpackers in Paihia

Saltwater Lodge, built in 2001 is New Zealands only 5 star backpackers!

We had six people in our road trip group so we got a 6 bed dormitory. The room was a good size yet having 6 people and all our gear for a week there was enough room to get around and spread out.

The staff at Saltwater are very friendly and with constant updates on the cricket score were helpful. The other people staying at Saltwater lodge being from many different countries were also very friendly saying hello as they walked past.

Saltwater also has a bar / nightclub, this is a great way to spend the night after trekking around Paihia and the Bay. A well deserved drink and a dance will add to the experience.

If you are planning a trip to the Bay of Islands then Saltwater is a sure bet.

Unique Quality: Saltwater lodge has:

Double (king size) beds, twins and dormitories (4 - 6 bed), all rooms have own bathroom, all rooms are heated and have their own large balcony, disabled facilities and is Eco-friendly, large fully fitted kitchen
spacious lounge with fire TV, video, Internet facilities and games rooms, guest gymnasium, nearest to beach, only 20 metres, 300 metres to the wharf, town center and bus terminal, safe off streest undercover parking, full booking service.
Free: bikes, kayaks, tennis, barbeque, videos, storage, tea, coffee, herbs and spices

Saltwater Lodge is a great place to stay. You can't go wrong with this one.
