The lush grounds of Huka Lodge by cnango This luxury lodge is very upscale, private and a favorite of World Leaders and Celebrities. When we first entered the beautiful Lodge we saw an oil painting of the Queen of England on display, it turns out she had been staying there the week before we arrived. The greeting we received was less than warm, perhaps because we are neither Celebrities or World Leaders. But everything else about the lodge was an example of beauty and excellence. My favorite thing was the amazing park like grounds situated 300 meters upstream from Huka Falls. If an accommodation with a lot of prestige set in lush nature is your taste, this lodge is for you !
My picture above does not begin to capture the beauty of lush gardens and aqua water. You can view a great photo tour here : http://www.slh.com/new_zealand/taupo/photographs1_ukanew.html Theme: Other

The Terraces Hotel. by kiwi Formerly known as De Brett Thermal Hotel, this has recently been sold to new owners. They are accutely aware of the hotels history and plan to renovate back to original state. Construction of this historic wooden hotel began in 1886. Whilst overseas countries have much longer history, for New Zealand this is old.
Sited right next to the Taupo Hot Springs health spa, you can relax and enjoy a lovely visit. The hotel has a wonderful elevated view of the lake. Hotel prices are $NZD70 double, and $10 for extra people. Backpacker prices are $NZD40 double. Also $10 extra per person. Clean and tidy, make sure you get a room on the upper floor (the ground floor has no view at all) if you want a good view of the lake. This 'motel' is a collection of private owned apartments, so it is a bit pot-luck if you get a recently modernised unit. Ask the reception for a good unit. The Spa was warm and clean and the Sauna was hot, what else can you ask for. No pool but the attached pub/restaurant was good. Uncomfortable couch beds (that squeeked).
Great views from the upper floor rooms. Theme: MotelPrice: US$40-80 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Lake Terrance; next to the council buildingDirections: On the lake shore

Comfortable, Clean & Cheap by kiwi_goddess Extremely hospitable owners. We arrived there at like 4am in the morning and we were welcomed regardless of the time. One thing I would advise though is that you make arrangements for accomodation prior to arriving there and preferably during the daytime as a lot of places wont even open their door through the night. This was something I learnt the hard way when I was travelling through Hamilton in the middle of the night.
This complex has a small playground for children. There are no stairs to have to climb for people who arent quite so steady on their feet. It is well away from the main road so is fairly quiet and peaceful. There is a supermarket nearby for all your grocery needs. The accommodation here consists of the following: Studio Unit NZD$75 - $95 per night (2 people) 1 Bedroom NZD $85 - $135 per night (2 people) 2 Bedroom NZD $120 - $150 per night (4 - 6 people) Extra Person NZD $15 Cabins NZD$20 - $25 per night (2 - 6 people) NB Bedding can be hired or you may supply your own. The communal kitchen has full ovens, microvave, fridge/freezer, and TV lounge. There are male and female shower and toilet blocks and a full guest laundry containing coin-operated washing machines and dryers.

Kipsway Bed & Breakfast by kiwigal_1 When I was last in Taupo for the Wattyl's Cycle Challenge we decided to look for a nice Bed & Breakfast. That weekend over 10,000 people decend on Taupo makes accommodation pretty hard to come by. We booked this little B&B quite early on and I am glad we did! The couple who own the place, Pam and Martin are a really lovely retired locals. Pam cooks the most awesome breakfasts. They are very enthusistic about sports and the outdoors which suited us fine as we were there for the bike challenge!
There is a separate area for guests with a queen size bed in one room and twin beds in another. There is also a separate bathroom and toilet for guests. Guests are able to use the family lounge to relax and watch TV or read and there is a garden patio area with awesome unobstructed views of the lake and mountains in the distance. The B&B is really conveniently located just north of Taupo on the hill as you enter the town. The cost was $110 per night per couple. Ooohhh a slice of heaven. by kiwi_goddess This is a great place to stay, with or without children. To be able to go home in the evening, cook a meal in the oven or microwave and then relax in your own private in room spa pool was great. The motel itself is clean, tidy and very spacious. The view of the lake isnt quite so great if you are in the ground level accommodation but theres a huge reserve area across the road where you can take great pics of the lake and the mountains. Not only that, the lake is directly across the road, so you can simply go across to the lake to take your pics.
For me, the best quality was the fact it had in room spa pools, not spa baths which only seat 1-2 people. Another good feature is the fact that all the beds have electric blankets which is an absolute godsend on those cold winter nights and a year round outdoor heated pool. Sacred waters is basically made up of 2 blocks. The main larger block consisting of 2 or 3 bedroom luxury apartments, some facing the lake and some not. The Lakefront block is on the lake is only available in 3 bedroom configurations. There are only 6 of these 3 bedroom apartments. 3 lower and 3 upper level apartments. These review is for the lower level 3 bedroom Lakefront apartment with its own private secured double garage. There is a large secured communal garage in the main block. The apartments are air conditioned in the main living room, not ducted to the bedrooms. When you first walk in 2 bedrooms flank either side, one has an onsuite. Then the main bedroom with large sliding doors that open out to views of the lake and another bathroom. Then the main living area with 42" lcd tv, dvd and stereo plus kitchen. Beyond that a small garden, deck, spa and a low fence secured with a gate for access out on to the lake. Ducks were there in the morning and would come up to you hoping for some treats. Each room is also equipped with its own television and with separate Sky (cable TV). Menus from most of the local restaurants are also available at the rooms. The fridge is stocked with breakfast consisting of bread, cereal, condiments, juice, milk, etc. The kitchen is well equipped and comes with not 1 but 2 dishwashers. I managed to get a good workout from the well equipped gym, which was quite hot due to the natural thermal energy below. The gym was however equipped with an air conditioner and TV. It is a pity, there is actually not that much to do in Taupo to justify staying more than 1 or 2 nights here. At the time of writing the managers are getting rid of the Clarion franchise and the place will be know as just Sacred Waters in months to come. I Look forward to staying here again.
My impressions of this property is wow! Modern, spacious, harmonic colour schemes, good lighting, great location, tastefully designed and furnished properties with a "wow" factor. It is indeed luxury, if you want to impress anyone, this place would do it. My photos and the photos on the hotel website does this place no justice.
