Arrived at the hotel just after 2pm, booked in with the front desk staff, awesome service. Stunned at the room(double bed room with amazing Super King bed) we were allocated.Spa bath in a massive bathroom with full shower, cabinet and hand basin services, beautiful white robes, full replete mini bar and snacks.Television in both the "lounge" and the bedroom. Bed so big you needed a street map to find your way from one side to the other.
Most comfortable Hotel bed we've slept in, ever, rooms quiet, clean and pleasant to be in.
Breakfast was another great experience, the kitchen and restaurant staff were courteous and friendly while doing a great job of making sure we knew where to find our preferred eats.
Overall we were magnificently looked after and treated with utmost courtesy and respect by all Hotel staff.
We will be back and I'm sure that the staff and the Hotel will not have lost their edge.
    Well done the Kingsgate.
Would not hesitate to recommend the Kingsgate to anyone, go there and be treated as guests should be.

Travel Tips for Hamilton

Waikato - Dairy Region

by kiwigal_1

Hamilton is the capital of the Waikato Region. The Waikato is New Zealand's biggest dairy area. Cows galore! The main dairy processing company is called Fonterra which is actually the world's 7th largest dairy company. The Fonterra milk trucks can be seen all over Waikato roads.

Doing the Time Warp with Riff-Raff

by Kimi_the_Bear

Somehow Riff Raff is quite a scary monster in the Rocky Horror (Picture) Show - but, of course, I was not afraid of his statue.

It was quite a good PR idea to install this statue to make more visitors stop in Hamilton on the way from Auckland to the central North Island.

In 2004, Hamilton City Council of New Zealand honoured Richard O'Brien's contribution to the arts with the Riff Raff statue on the site of the former Embassy Movie Theatre.

The Time Warp is a main feature of the musical and film which came out in 1974.

If you do not know or have forgotten how to do the Time Warp, there are clear pictographic instructions on the wall behind the statue.

The statue BTW is a lot smaller than you would expect. You really have to know where it is to spot it, as it is not in the centre of a road but a bit hidden on the side of the city's main street (Victoria Street).

What we found strange in New Zealand was that O'Brien was refused permanent residence in 2010 when he wanted to return to New Zealand part-time because he was too old. He had forgotten to apply for citizenship before returning to England in 1964 at the age of 22. But there was a happy ending: The Immigration Ministry decided to make an exception. Normally applicants have to be under 55 years old, have a job offer and be healthy.

Richard O'Brien was born in 1942 as Richard Timothy Smith in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. In 1951 he emigrated to New Zealand with his family. His parents lived here until their death, and his siblings are still living here in the Tauranga region.

Riff Raff's shoes are quite spectacular. No wonder as the musical is about transsexual Transsilvanians ;-)

Riff Raff was the servant in the trans-party house where Brad and Janet ended up in the middle of a rainy night.

Once I was there at night. I was dangling from Riff Raff's lightning fork.

The city's main square opposite the SkyCity Casino is quite bland during the year but at Christmas time there always is a spectacular Christmas tree with ever-changing colour lighting.
