Nine days in Hamilton
"Supporting a friend"
We were in Hamilton to support one of our best friends who was undergoing heart bypass surgery at the Braemar Hospital. We stayed at the Lake Point Motel, just three blocks from the hospital.
We arrived in Hamilton on March 25th, the surgery was done successfully on March 26th and we left Hamilton on April 4th to go to our friends home in Rotorua to continue to help her in her recovery.
"Taking care of our own needs"
Since the Braemar Hospital is just a small private hospital, they didn't have anywhere for visitors to eat or get food. So for our needs we had to venture into town for our sustenance. I think there were some of the traditional American fast food places there, but we didn't fly halfway around the world to eat American fast food.
We discovered that there are many great places to eat in Hamilton. Among our favorites we Burgerholics, BBC, Fox & Hounds and the Bank.
"Home of Richard O'Brien"
While walking thru town one day we came across a statute of the character Riff-Raff from the movie "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". It turns out that the author of the film, and the actor who played Riff-Raff in the movie, was Richard O'Brien who is from Hamilton.
