WW1 Memorial in Featherston
About 2km north of Featherston on State Highway 2 is a little park. During WW1, this area was used to train NZ soldiers headed off to the carnage that was World War 1.
During WW2, this facility was then used to hold Japanese prisoners of war. During a riot by Japanese prisoners in 1943, around 50 Japanese POWs and 1 NZ soldier were killed.
There's a little garden with various monuments, and a grove of cherry trees as well.
