a central hotel
Comfortable rooms, easy access to the city and National Rental cars will pick up the hire car from the hotel.
Unique Quality: This hotel is in the middle of the city and only a few minutes walk from the shops, theatres and Te Papa museum and the cable car.
We have just returned from a 12 day holiday in NZ, whilst there we stayed in a number of hotels on the north and south island. By far the Intercontinental Wellington was the best we stayed in, from the checkin to the service of the staff it was all fault less. This is NZ'S best hotel in our opinion. Thanks for a great stay. Top quality Hotel with central location

Stayed here in April 2006 for two nights. As it was the easter weekend we obatined a discounted rate which made it good value for money. Located in the heart of Wellington close to all the shops, sights etc. Lovely spacious room - very comfortable. Was a bit surprised to a see a sign directing disabled passengers towards a stair - perhaps the Kiwis know something that I dont. Very enjoyable stay.
Pleasant Stay

I enjoyed three nights at the Intercontinental last weekend.
I found the room to be of a good size ( received an upgrade) and it had a partial harbour view ( if you stood at the window! ).
Furnishings were pleasant , light wood and beiges and the room had all the accessories that you would expect, i.e ironing board and iron, robes, safe etc. The work desk was also of a good size with a comfortable chair.
Overall the ambiance of the room was very pleasant and also quiet , which is important to me.
The only slight complaints that I had was having to call reception as I had been charged for breakfast when it should have been included in the rate. However this was quickly rectified with an apology. My thermostat was also not working properly and had to be fixed. Thirdly , I would have preferred to have had a seperate shower unit as I prefer that to having to stand in the bath.
Overall, I found the staff, regardless of their role to be very polite and friendly.
I would definately return if i was able to get a good rate and similar room.
I have stayed at most of the so called 5 star hotels in Auckland and so far this has been the best overall. Only the Duxton has better views from its rooms.
Pretty Good

Stayed here for 2 nights in a King Spa room. The room was comfortable and a reasonable size, though the decor was a little too Donald Trump for me. The bathroom was well equipped - obviously there was a spa bath but there was also a large double shower. I wasn't totally happy with the bathroom cleanliness though.
We had a decent view of the harbour, but there were problems with noise. Firstly, a waste collection lorry did its rounds at 3 am, and then there were ships' horns going off before 6. Food in the bar wasn't bad - we didn't try the main restaurant however. I would recommend the hotel overall.
Disappointing

Of all the hotels we stayed in on our three week trip, this was the most disappointing. We were excited about staying here, based on reviews from this website as well as experience at other InterContinental hotels. The lobby is beautiful, but it stops there. The staff at the desk and in the bar and restaurant were nearly rude. Our rooms were right next to the elevators and next to the fitness center. This made for very noisy conditions inside our rooms. The beds were quite old and swayed with use. Not what we expected of a hotel with such a good reputation.
Big Hotel, Personal Service

Mom-and-pop motor lodges dot New Zealand's landscape, so a large modern hotel like this one is not as common as one would think. It is well-situated in the commercial business district of Wellington. Wellington is a great city for outdoor activities, but when it rains, you need alternative plans. That's where the outstanding concierge staff at the Intercontinental shines. We kept these men busy and they helped us book numerous activities. Bonus: There's not much of a tipping culture in NZ, so these guys worked this hard without expectation of huge tips
The rooms are clean and modern, with all the expected amenities. Our room overlooked the harbor. We had a good massage here (though in a makeshift converted storage room, it was still pleasant) and outstanding breakfasts via room service. (Dinner room service is just okay, though.) We didn't meet one cranky staff person. Highly recommended!
Great place to stay

Stayed for just the one night in this hotel on a very blustery day in October. The accommodation we originally booked in Wellington was awful so this was a very last minute booking made with the hotel while we were in Wellington for the same night. The hotel is almost on the waterfront and within a couple of minutes you can be at the waterfront, in the shopping area or at the town cable car station. A 10-15 minute walk brings you to the restaurant nightlife area of the city, or in the opposite direction to the parliament buildings. The staff were wonderful, provided a good service, and very friendly. We were upgraded to an executive room with lounge access and breakfast. The executive lounge on the 10th floor (one floor above ours, but directly linked by a spiral stairway) was a good size with some (restricted) views over Wellington harbour. There are two PCs with free Internet access. Canapés are served in the lounge in the evening with selected alcoholic drinks. Soft drinks and coffee are available all day. The room had 2 double beds with all the normal attributes you would expect. The bathroom was roomy with over bath shower, and good toiletries. There is a car park (payment required) next door and valet parking is available. With our short time there we didn’t use the restaurant or bar so I can’t comment on those. The food (canapés and breakfast) in the executive lounge was nicely presented and tasty. As and when I return to Wellington I would have no hesitation in staying here again.
Q:Welsh flag? "Does anyone know where I can get a Welsh flag from in Wellington? Preferably a big flag you can wrap around yourself! Thanks!"
A: "Can't imagine why you would be looking for one of those in Wellington this week in particular ... :)
Sorry, I have no idea, but whatever you end up wrapping around..."
