Rongotai International Airport, on the Mirimar Peninsular , some 15 minutes from the city, makes Wellington City one of the most accessible in the world to International Air travel. Daily links with Australia and regular flights in and out to Auckland which links the world to our shores
Cuba St Mall

The mall shops, like elsewhwere in Wellington city, were a riot of different colours.
Some art to be found there, plenty of restaurants, shops, and I can't remember what else. But worth a wander for sure.
Cinemas and Monsters

Another thing I found interesting about Wellington city was the presence of huge monsters on several cinema buildings, no doubt a remnant from Lord of the Rings. Te Papa museum also had a kind of huge rubber monster attached to the outside, moving in the wind.

Wellington City

Well, I'm currently living in Wellington. I've been here for 1 month now and am enjoying it thorougly. The amazing hills surrounding the central city make this city feel very cozy. It takes minutes to walk from one area to the next. The nightlife is great and overall the people are pretty nice.
There are more cafes than you can shake a stick at!!
Unfortunately no pictures yet...wish I had a digital camera :-(

Hi,
Can anyone recommend a Buffet Style Restaurant at one of Wellington Citys Hotels for Mothers Birthday Dinner - P.S. It has to be midweek on a Wed nite.
Appreciate any recommendations. Thanks Mich :-)

I have just stayed at the Grand Chancellor, and they do have a buffet restaurant named Whitby's. However, I have not eaten there myself, I am more into ethnic cuisine when in Wellington.

At Fisherman's Table in Oriental Bay they have an all you can eat salad buffet. The location and views are fantastic, and the food is very affordable.
Their website is not available at the moment, no idea why.

Storing valueables and laptop while travelling
by richn1981
Hi,
me and my girlfriend are looking to travel in nz for a while and if we can get work - live there for a while. I need to take my laptop in case we stay but don't really want to be carrying it round while we travel. We'll probably be flying in to either wellington or aucklund and wondering if there are any places like safe storage where you can leave things like this for a few months and pick em up later?
Thanks very much
rich

Hi - here is a link to storage places in Wellington. I haven't ever needed to store something for a couple of months - it might cost a bit - but there are options
here is a link for you to enquire further

In Auckland the official storage places are the Visitor Centres (i-sites). The info might be on my Auckland page because this was a Forum question a while ago, and I called the i-site to find out about it.
But I am sure also hostels and hotels where you stay will store them for you.
I have not done active research in Wellington, but it should be similar.
Just contact the i-site.
In Christchurch I know that for example an internet café on Cathedral Square stores luggage.
Still I think the cheapest option would be to negotiate with an accommodation place where you stay.
