Interislander ferry question

by THEHED

I am looking at taking the Interislander ferry from Wellington to Picton while on vacation. While looking at the fare structure I noticed two prices, one for "Saver Change" and one for "Easy Change"

What are these referring to? What is the difference between to two fares?

Thank you.

There you see that with Easy Change fares you can cancel your trip right up to the time of check-in, without any penalty fees, whereas Saver Change fares incur a 50 percent cancellation fee. It's like with cheap flights.

Travel Tips for Wellington

Civic Centre 1

by Kate-Me

We came across the civic centre quite by accident, and found it quite impressive.
Imposing buildings of different styles - some modern, some more traditional, the library is on one side, Visitor Information Centre also nearby.
There is a large cobbled square in the middle with modern art, and a cobbled walkway which goes over an interesting footbridge (under which actually flows the motorway, almost right into the very middle of the city) and then the walkway continues on along the waterfront in both directions. Turning right you pass waterfront restaurants and cafes, and within a few minutes the way will take you directly to Te Papa Museum.

Skate Boarders

by fishandchips

It's a really weird thing that Wellington seems to have the most sk8r boys in NZ. You can often see them skating down Courtenay Place behind and, sometimes it's almost too hard to watch, in front of buses.

These guys are fearless (nice way to put it!) and have free reign on the roads in the parts.

We get a few on the footpath in Christchurch and I've seen a few randoms in Ackland but nothing like the scene in Wellington. I've yet to get a photo though I've seen many skateboarders whiz in front of my spot when having a beer at Jet.

Sea kayaking and open water rowing.

You can freedom kayak around the near harbour, or take a tailored trip with an experienced guide for a longer time. They provide what you need, but obviously you shouldn't be in a dress!
This company is run by Ian Ferguson, Olympic gold medallist (4xgold,1 x silver) and he is New Zealand's "Olympian of the Century".

Seatoun

by Kate-Me

While we were in Seatoun searching uselessly for the Lord of the Rings Cafe, we were almost right on the beach when we happened upon this very interesting wooden carved sculpture of a man playing guitar, in somebody's garden.
My husband, being a guitarist, was quite interested in it.

Wellington's Oldest Pub

by kiwi about The Thistle Inn

The Thistle Inn is an interesting place to visit for an evening drink. It's history begins in 1840, where it stood very near to the waterfront until land was reclaimed in 1876 pushing the foreshore further away. Check out the photos on the wall, depicting this. Some photos from early years and comparisons with how things are now.
There is a lot of old native timbers used and an interesting tilt of the building gives rather lopsided floors upstairs.
I enjoyed my pub food meal here, and with a nice atmosphere, had a good time. Nice place to meet friends, or just go alone. Smart Casual.
