Christchurch's trams.
by worldkiwi
Christchurch's trams are a quaint element of the city. I never took one as everywhere I wanted to go was in walking distance or beyond the coverage of the trams. The trams do a circuit of the downtown area and the Lonely Planet advices it would often be quicker and cheaper to walk than take the tram. It's nice that the city council has preserved these old trams. They certainly add to the urban scenery and are another aspect that makes Christchurch different to other NZ cities. The scene shown here is of a tram at the Cathedral Square tram stop with the fine old Regent Building in the background.
If you're a short guy like me...
by knerten
If you're a short guy like me, remember to bring a spare pair of trousers. Why? Well, all trousers come in "regular" length only, that's 83-85cm or 34in (they use cm here which can be quite confusing) and I am 32in person. I went to 20 or so stores the other day, but found only one-length trousers, in all sizes (widths) of course, but all too long for me. The only place I could get different length trousers are at Just Jeans or Levi's, but then they're rather expensive. I wonder how short men survive here...?
Head them off at The Pass... Arthur's Pass
by ATXtraveler
On our scenic drive from Christchurch to the West Coast of the South Island, we made a nice little stop in Arthur's Pass National Park. It is located about 150km Northwest of ChCh, and can easily be reached in 2.5 hours by car by taking Highway 73 out of town. Whether you head out for a short day trip, or go out to spend the night, it is a nice little diversion from the city and has some great views!
For more information on Arthur's Pass National Park, I have included a separate VT Page for it below:
