Hanmer 8km run
There are plenty of tracks in and around Hanmer that can be used for walking and running. A good intro to the annual Hanmer half Marathon is a run on a portion of the course.
A good start point is in front of the Hot pools (get there early for a close parking spot). Run toward town and turn left into Jacks Pass Rd. Follow Jacks pass then turn right onto Clarence Valley Rd. Follow this road (up hill so rather tough) for 2km then turn right onto Pawsons Rd. The track is now mostly downhill or flat so much easier.
Carry on all the way to Jollies Pass Rd and turn right. There are toilets close by so an opportunity if you have the need! Follow the road for about 50 metres and get onto the Forest Walk (through a gate on the left hand side of the road and go right). Follow this for a Km or so until you get to the intersection that goes to Dog Track. Turn right here, go over the small bridge and on to Cheltenham St - another 100 metres or so will get you back onto the main drag (ie Amuri Ave) and over the road to your car.
The total distance is approx 7.8km and is a nice trundle around the area. You get a good run up the hill with plenty of nice views around the area. Pawsons Rd takes you around the back of Conical hill and has little cover so make sure you have a hat or use lots of sunscreen if it's a sunny day. Pack your running shoes and gear before you go - I always have mine in the car just in case!
