Two charming, modern Self - Contained timber cottages, set under the backdrop of Mt. Fyffe and the Seaward Kaikoura mountains, at "Lavendyl" - Lavender Farm and Display Gardens; a peaceful and beautiful location just five minutes from the central Kaikoura township - featuring outdoor bath and shower
Lavendyl ..Lavender Farm and display gardens. Peace and tranquility in a beautiful and quiet environment. Wander around the gardens enjoying the expansive views of Kaikouras' Peninsula and Mountain Range. Stroll through the on-site gift shop that crafts lavender oil and other quality lavender products.
Due to lack of funds, under canvas was our only option - until it started to rain, I mean, pour. Not being a massive fan of waterbeds, we were fortunately able to upgrade to a caravan (alas no heating- but waterproof) for $17 (NZ dollars) a night.
Showers and toilets were good - they had the radio playing constantly through speakers, which was a nice touch. The kitchen was clean and roomy.
As well as camping and caravanning, you can park up the campervans or stay in small bedroom units.
I stayed at a lovely Bed & Breakfast in the home of an older couple in town. It was recommended by the welcome center.

Part of the reason we chose to stay here is because of the establishment's age. It was built in 1921, making it the oldest hotel in town. It obviously has its idiosyncrasies, but it has a lot of nostalgic flavor to it.
The upstairs hallways are covered with old time photographs and momentos. The kitchen and bathrooms give evidence of the owner's like for Gary Larson's "The Far Side" since there are poster sized cartoons all over the walls. It definitely gives you something to read while cooking your dinner.
The rooms were nice, but I would recommend looking into one or two because the first room they showed us was a bit musty. The second room was just fine. The beds are bit squeaky, but comfortable.
The rooms vary in size from bunks to doubles and suites. Ours for example was a simple double with a sink. The communal kitchen and showers are available to all guests.
If you are around before ~6pm, you are entitled to a free soup and small snack at the restaurant next door.
Parking is available up the hill on the back side of the hotel. The staff will show you where.
Quite a nice campground eventhough it is on the main road. They have powered and unpowered sites as well as some cabins. City centre in walking distance.
Has very good facilities, i.e nice common room and kitchen.
Cushchine Cottage is a good place to stay if you like animals.
You will see a lot animals, for example, Llamas - you can feed them!
The Cottage is clean and spacious, it is suitable for family especially children.
If you come from city, you will enjoy your stay because it is peaceful and quiet.
This park has won a lot of prices. It has a wide range of accomodation and is just outside Kaikoura town centre.
Heated pool, spa, covered bbq area, playground, kitchen, laundry, phone, internet and convenience store.
