This website:

http://www.amazingspace.co.nz/amazing/index.cfm

is a very good travellers website, with plenty of information about accommodation, activities etc.

The Visitor Information Centre (i-site) is located on Main Street.
Contact details are:

For information about all kinds of accommodation and booking the first website is clearly the better one.

My special friends (3): Bellbirds

by Kakapo2

They love this area. They cannot only feed on the honeydew of the mountain beeches which – of course – is a favourite food of honeyeaters. They also feed on the pollen from mountain flax, and cabbage trees that grow in the clearings of the Alder Track (and later the white berries). When pollen and fruit get sparse they also feed on insects and spiders. The bellbirds are the most fabulous singers in the forest, their voices resounding like in a concert hall. The males are olive green, with the tail and wings dark bluish black, and there is a yellow patch at the wing. The females are slightly browner.

The Latin name of the bellbird is Anthornis melanura.
The Maori call them Korimako and Makomako.

daylight robbery

by pepples46

the sheep shearing demonstration.
not only a necessity here in NZ, it is also a real sport with competitors from all over the world..and they have their own worldcup going. A NZlander often comes out as the winner..or, now and then an Australian, which is okay too
the sheep has no say in it at all, and losing the coat in the process

Hot Air Balloning

by pepples46

I have been ask for this peticulare activity in the area.....never done it myself, but seen the big Hot Air Ballons flying around and all over this area
so I thought I might as well make a link to the site I found and you can take it from there
the pic is snaped from this website and shows the area and Mt Hutt Range
