Travel Tips for Picton

Where Trees go Swimming?

by fishandchips

Shakespeare Bay is the next one around from Picton and is often full of cut logs. If you have seen my warning re Port Underwood you will know where most of the swimming logs come from. You can drive (or walk if you are keen) to the first corner on the Queen Charlotte Rd and wander down for a closer inspection.

Picton, gateway to the South Island of New Zealand

by Kate-Me

Picton looked quite a pretty place as we came into the harbour from Wellington (and the weather was certainly 100% on the grey tempest we'd left in Wellington only 3 hours earlier).

Interestingly, about 3 days after we passed through, the massive NZ floods really hit, and Picton was partially under water and cut off for a time, and one of the ferry crossings was that rough that 3 Pokie (gambling) machines fell over and several cars were damaged in the cargo hold.
Glad we missed that!
I get seasick badly enough with swells, let alone huge waves!
