The not-to-be-missed hostels...

The not-to-be-missed hostels in NZ are:
- Peppertree in Paihia
- Le Bons Bay Backpackers in the Banks Peninsula
- The Vagabond in Christchurch
- Lochmara Lodge in the Marlborough Sounds
- Cray Cottage in Kaikoura (apparently owners have changed, but you might want to give it a go)
Generally, the price is 15-18 kiwi dollars. Unique qualities of all of these hostels are the owners, who are extremely welcoming and hospitable. They tend to join the backpackers when socializing, they either take you fishing, bake fresh bread or do other things that make you very welcome.
The Marlborough Sounds are...

The Marlborough Sounds are fantastic. Great for walking, canoeing and one of the nicest hostels happens to be just here (Lochmara Lodge).
The sounds are just stunningly beautiful! The hostel is a cool place, owned by a lovely couple with a little daughter and a dog.
Questions and Answers
Q: trancoastal "I will be travelling from Picton to Christchurch. I can use either the intercity coach or the tranzcoastal train...."
A: "i am reasonably sure the coach will be a lot cheaper
cheaper than a car too"
